Nah, the only one still doing it is Mount Leinster in order to jam the Welsh Freeview services.

Tongue in cheek I presume. Sure dont RTE have a licence to broadcast on those frequencies....

Didn't stop them doing it to Radio Nova and Sunshine Radio back in the 80s.

I was just thinking of Chris. 2 years dead. A legend.

I'd have to pull Mulryans book out (god knows where that is) to find the answer, but I think it was Sunshine similarily that blocked (through broadcasting rather than jamming) Red Rose back in the 80s. Similarily a pirate in Dublin on 103.2 back in the 90s was apparently jammed by an over anxious independent station (jamming traced to the O Connell bridge area) before they were raided. Lost in the raid was the old Nova desk used in the 80s - subsequently given back to the grateful owner (who is about launch a similarly named station). Anorak overload.

TV3 gone to a testcard again, but now its 16:9. Channel is called RTENL as well.

Plus as reported in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055853128

neither of my Sony TVs (W4000 & V4500) can actually find the DTT tests at the moment. The TV merely pauses at channel 53, then keeps going. However the channels already stored can be viewed. Strange.

Can I ask someone for a reception report at the moment. There's been no signal for the last couple of days for me on DTT. Is it possible the weather is totally knocking out the signal or is there technical work going at the transmitter?

    Thanks.

Hey mate, for me im living in Stamullen and for the last week or so to be honest my reception which had been full to perfect has been almost half to nothing as late. Also im guessing due to weather i was picking up a very poor signal from Scotland. BBC Scotland etc all appeared on the epg and during the day yesterday could watch it also. Jumped a good bit but.

Im hoping its works going on here that our signal is much weaker and not weather as its been badly effected for me.

I've noticed no interruptions here in Dundalk, but then again the mast is only 4 or 5 miles away from my location, so any drop in the strength of the signal would probably be above the threshold for bad reception in this area i'd guess.

It was back last night for me but only a 42% signal qaulity

RTENL2 is broadcasting in HD (1080 lines) at the moment. Interesting.....

it's been on 1080 all day..
    I wish they'd show something.
Colour bars in HD don't do a lot for me

Has any1 else been having difficulty viewing Irish Dtt from Clermot Carn over the past few days ??? I have the Humax box which was sent out during the dtt trials and i'am able to view NI Freeview no problem but Irish Dtt isn't working properly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

It breaks up now and again for me or has periods where it's unwatchable for a second or so then returns itself to normal, but generally the signal is quite good for me. I hope if there are any problems they are fixed shortly as I have now got used to having the RTE channels included when I'm channel hopping, usually I had to go back to analogue to watch them and ended up forgetting about them! I just wish TV 3 was back on the service again.

i seem to be having sync issues or sometimes the channel doest load at all. I have tried resetting the box and setting up all the channels again and it didn't improve things. The signal strength is 75% & the quality is 100%. There was an announcment on today FM saying that their would be transmission problems this week but i didn't think it would effect DTT ... hopefully its sorted soon

Yes. Vision is gone on both my W4000 and V4500 Sony TV's. Tried a manual re-scan but no luck. DTT on my LG LH2000 series telly is fine. Seems to be a Sony specific issue for now.

Uh oh. I hope it's only a short lived problem. My Tv is a 32v4500.

I'm on the west coast of the Isle of Man and was able to (briefly) get a DTT signal from C Carn during the recent good weather.

When is the transmission strength likely to improve from this transmitter. I see from maps on the BCI site that signal penetration to the North improves in Q1 2011 - however other sources say there will be no improvement until DSO in 2012 - anyone any firm info on this?

I currently do get a perfect signal in analogue from C Carn.

Planned to go from 50KW ERP to 160 KW with no restrictions in early 2013. See here.

Thanks for that. Yes I have seen that coverage graph which seems unequivocal - however the signal coverage maps here:

    http://www.bci.ie/DTT/licensing.html

    http://www.bci.ie/DTT/easy_tv/map_standard_stageincrease_q1_2011.jpg

show a definite signal strength improvement (north from Newcastle in Co Down) in Q1 2011 - I just wondered what was the explanation for that or is it erroneous?

    All the best.

Good reception last night from digital signal Clermont Carn (we don't usually pick it up here - west coast of IOM) but the weather conditions must have boosted the reach.

Absolutely sound clear pic which came as a surprise because I thought my Panasonic TV was not able to handle Mpeg4 (I have previously had a good signal in similar weather but accessed that via a Technomate 6900 sat/terrestrial reciever).

No comparison between the digi pic and analogue which we get here quite strongly roll on the day.

When they turn up the wick! (Or will it be Soarsat first?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

Full power in 2012, so you may get better, more solid reception then. Saorsat could very well be launched by then so if you put up a dish for it, you could be getting it and possibly more/better channels before DSO in Ireland.

Nice one Buggane! I haven't had digital from CC for over 2 years now (in Cregneash) and even then it was only for a couple of nights and on the old mpeg2 trials. Lost 3R for over a fortnight now but came back with all four muxes this morning at 95% signal and 100% quality! :) Hope it lasts!

    Gone again!

2012? Looks like a long wait!

    Cheers.

Back to one mux (54) again I've noticed. The other day all four were belting in here on south-west penisular of IOM. Anyone else notice that 58, 61 & 64 were all live a few days ago?

Digital has been intermittent for me the past few days. Sometimes it works, others it doesn't. Wasn't on at 8:30 this morning but analogue was 100% perfect as usual. Anyone else getting problems?

Any reception reports from Clermont this afternoon?

Any from westerly direction would be interesting.
Is it on CH57, what power are they broadcasting at etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭buggane

No change in signal here (west coast of Isle of Man).

Today Channel 53 is about 35% Signal strength and 0% Quality (Pic only comes through when theres a real change in atmospherics.

I am getting low readings on Channel 57 but am reasonably certain that this (together with similar on Channel 60) is from a UK DTT relay in SW Scotland.

Unless the signal strength goes up at C Carn we won't get a watchable pic here (roll on Ka-Sat!!).

    All the best.

Ch 57 is also allocated to Clermont Carn, could be the second mux up and running. Second muxes appear to be testing at Truskmore and Mullaghanish.

No! I am pretty certain this is a UK DTT overspill when I did get a watchable signal from these two Channels 57/60 one was BBC Scotland.

I will keep an eye on both 52 and 57 but nothing new at the moment.
