Child allowance?

I'm an American and have never lived in Europe, so I wasn't aware of the child allowance situation there until recently. I've read that it's not means tested. So does this mean a couple making 60,000euro a year is still eligible for this payment? Also, is this payment in ADDITION to a tax deduction, or is it merely a substitution. We have no such child allowance here, but you are given a tax deduction for each child.

Thanks Andy. It doesn't seem to say anything about taxes though. I'm curious if a parents gets a tax deduction in addition to the child allowance.

Absolutely. We don't know a soul over there, so I'd be happy to meet ya for a coffee. If we do move there, we'd probably get a place in Co. Dublin.

Seeing as I'm not too familiar with the use of names in Ireland, I suppose Andy COULD be a woman. If not, don't worry, my girlfriend still let's me make out with dudes. A little reach around never hurt anyone. Am I right or am I right or am I right?

There is no tax deduction ($1000 per child in the US, decreasing as family income exceeds $110k)

Everyone gets a child allowance (€1800 per year, per child, roughly).
