Im just after cracking up my 5th can of Beamish on my own.

I hope you checked the best before date or you'll be on here tomorrow whining about it.

"Drinking alone" is drinking to get drunk when you're on your own.

"An Erdinger" - as in one - isn't going to get you drunk. Ergo, you're just having an Erdinger.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭nice1franko

That said, even if you were having a few - nowt wrong with that. Some people enjoy their own company from time to time.

It's terrible to have a drink alone, you gotta have a spliff as well, when you start to get maggoty drunk throw a yolk into you, if needs be take a big line of coke and off to work.

    I'm a social drinker.

Boards counts as being social, right?

Got absolutely wankered drunk at home on my tobler last weekend. Puked out the window. The cat was not impressed.

You'd think that, i tried to watch "The Godfather" Trilogy over a long weekend with a few cans. By the start of the 3rd one I didnt have a notion what was going on!

    Neither did Scorcese.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you're doing it for the right reasons i.e. a treat/me time rather than to get drunk.

I know some who would still call it drinking. I know some heavy drinkers who would never have a single drink like that alone.

I find it amusing, I get the impression they think it is a sign that you are an alco if you drink on your own, even a single one, but these are usually big drinkers themselves who will not do it as a rule. I know a guy who used to give up drink for a few weeks as a sort of proof to himself he was not an alco or something. Then after "doing his time" he would congratulate the fact he was not an alco by getting roaring drunk.

i enjoy a couple of beers at home most evenings, don't see a problem with it unless you couldn't cope with not having one!

Don't really see a problem with it - each to their own

Haven't done it in a while myself, might give it a go tomorrow if nothing's on - expect some rare oul ramblings out of me on boards tomorrow night folks!

Cheers for the tip OP! :)

Just having a nice bottle of Erdinger Weisbier here before bed... Sometimes there's nothing nicer at the end of the day than a nice cold beer!
    Chills ya out tbh.
The O/H only drinks on a very rare occasion
    Ugh.
So what about Boardsies?? What are your opinions of 'drinking alone' Do you enjoy a beer while watching a film/reading a book/looking up T'internet? Or would you NEVER even consider drinking by yourself?

Yep. Its my chill time. I can do what I fucking like tbh. Other peoples opinions on how I spend my spare time don't really interest me. If I go out and drink / hang at home and drink its my business.

Having a bottle of beer right now. Wouldn't be uncommon for me to have a couple of bottles of beer at the weekend (not in tomorrow) by myself. Nice and relaxing.

Hi all, am new here. :D I drink at home every night, being an older person it seems to be a safe option ( and cheaper)

That statement makes no sense... I get drunk then I do "treat me time".

Late home, Indian takeaway and a couple of bottles of cold Budvar. Take that, world!

There's a nonsense questionaire for potential 'alcoholics' that pops up now and again and one of the questions (if you answer yes to you are doomed as an alco) is do you drink alone?

Fecken bollyx. Much more civilized to treat yourself to a couple of posh belgian beers or a nice bottle of vino in the company of yourself and a nice dinner than pretending drinking twice that in the company of people is somehow okay.

Also, you are less likely to go mental with the booze if you appreciate a bit of quality in your own quiet time rather than saving it all up for a mad night on the razz.

I drink alone quite a bit, find it relaxes me,stick on some good music, have 9 or 10 cans and chill out.

Plus I won a tenner off a promotional can of bavaria last week and got my cheque in the post today, drinking is finally starting to pay off!

Absolutely. We're not a society where it's considered normal, everyday practice to have a glass of wine or a pint or two with lunch on your own, or to come home and relax with a glass of whiskey or a half bottle of wine or a few beers. When we can do that, comfortably, and when there's no stigma, we'll have come a long way as a society.

I only ever drink alcohol during the weekend. Its just a rule i have. I'l make an attempt to get out for a pint with my buddy but usually i end up having a few nice beers on my own on Fri/Saturday & ya know what?....i think i actually prefer it like that. Yeah i just said that.
Maybe 1 weekend per month i'l actually go for a pint. Drinking in a pub is expensive. I can get 4 cans of Tyskie for 6.15. A pint in my local is almost 5 euro.

The director of films like Goodfellas and Taxi Driver. But Italians are interchangable.

Nothing quite like a nice cold beer or two after a day's work. Everyone has their different ways of unwinding. Some people do healthy crap like go for walks and whatnot, some watch the soaps, some read a book. Each to their own I reckon.

Yeah it can be nice from time to time. Id rarely think of having afew beers at home and would never be out alone but just recently I had the house to myself on a Friday night, there was nothin else on so I had afew cans of Kilkenny (God I love that creamy goodness) and followed it up with 3 ice-cold bacardi and cokes.
Enjoyable is the word. Youtube clips quickly become laugh out loud funny!

Actually, this thread made me wonder if I drink too much

Fcuk that to hell, I've been gettin up early and running. I've never felt so fit or looked so good ;)

    I been drinking every night

And if red wine and some nice cheese is undesirable then fuck off to Amish town mofo!

    Neither did Scorcese.

Scorcese didn't direct The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppolla did.

....and I'm on my third glass of wine! :P
