So is there anything else I need to do than the already following done?

    1. Sent a written letter of cancelation and
    2. Sent a message over their web site as well and did get a mail back saying it had been noted.

Should I call them as well?

I would defo call them aswell.

I think you have to give 30 days notice of cancellation so the quicker they know about it the better for you.

    Emails/Letters could mysteriously not arrive.

Call and get a name :)

In all such cases, I call them to give the 30 day notice, rather than send a letter. I feel a lot happier having someone on the other end confirm receipt.

And I ALWAYS cancel the direct debit immediately after the final payment goes through. If there is any further dispute over money owed, it's easier to have them ask you for it, than for you to be trying to get your money back off them.

+1 on cancel the direct debit (and email them to say you've cancelled it)

See emails below on what happened me when I cancelled:

     OVERCHARGING

    Dear Sir,

    Your email below is incorrect.

My account was terminated on 27-02-2010 when an NTL engineeer called to my house and removed the NTL equipment. NTL has not provided me with any service since 27-02-2010.

There are two matters I am particularly unhappy with:

    1. NTL appears to expect me to pay for a service which was not provided.
    2. By not swiftly issuing a final invoice for service (to 27-02-2010) and providing me with a refund of monies overcharged, NTL is forcing me to enter into this form of communication to resolve the matter. This is unnecessary, deliberate and inconvenient.

Perhaps you could now please ensure that this matter is resolved completely without the need for further communication.

Please note I have cancelled the direct debit with my bank to protect myself from further overcharging.

    Many thanks,

    Paul Kiernan

     Dear NTL,

I have been charged €20.75 for another month's rental even though my account has been closed. This amount was debitted from my bank account on 8th March.

Please note that I have had no service since 27th February when the NTL engineer called to my house and collected the Set-top box.

Perhaps you can please refund the money as soon as possible so I can buy food for my family.

    Thank you,

    Paul Kiernan

OK... I gave UPC a call (as adviced by you good people) and it took forever to get through the maze of options and was even given a verbal rundown of my current invoice due, last payment made etc etc etc... Zzzzzz... Finally I got a person and guess what? I was put on hold for 5 min before coming back to say that the cancellation was received and the digital TV service would end in 30 days.

I asked about pick up of the receiver as I'm leaving the country but was told that a tech would give me a ring when the date got closer. WTF? I have more important things to do before leaving Ireland than sit and wait for UPC... OK, in all fairness I think so far UPC have been ok customer service wise (not product wise though)...

Oh why didn't I do that...

Cancelled my NTL by giving my months notice. The equipment was collected last weekend. All seemed very smooth... And I have just been charged for another months rental, even though by right they should owe me for part of a month.

I FOOLISHLY expected them to have the cop on to cancel billing on their side and close any outstanding fees out...

    Here comes the hassle...

I don't think it's anything to do with cop on! I believe they do it deliberately.

AFAIK, UPC aren't regulated for cable TV so you can't complain to a regulator. You could take them to the Small Claims Court but it's not worth your while for €20. As you can see from my email above they simply ignore what's in your email and reply to something else.

My plan is to give them back their cable. The cable that runs from the boundary on one side of my house to the boundary on the other side:) I'll take it down and leave it neatly coiled, ready for collection, at the front gate.

Well in my case it's 95.75 - for full TV, sports and broadband.

I called them though and they said they'd get a refund cheque and final balancing statement in the post that I should receive within 2 weeks... Will believe it when I see it though!

Well I hope you get it back and from the correct date too.

What annoyed me was that they expect me to pay for weeks after they've removed the equipment:mad:.

While the amount of money is small it's my money and it should be in my pocket, not in theirs, still:mad:.
