Repairing avi index

    I recovered a number of deleted avi’s the problem is that the avi index is broken. If I use vlc player, it can repair the index and play the file perfectly but it is only fixed for that instance. If I want to play it again I have to go through the repair process again.
    Does anybody know of any (preferably free) programs that can permanently repair the index? I can’t seem to find any option like that with vlc.
