Just saw this bullsh1t story on one of the daily rag sheets.
I've got a number of problems with this.
First of all, how the hell is that front page news!
Then I have to ask, how many more failed chat shows are RTE TV going to give Gerry Ryan, and for that matter howe many more failed saturday night chat shows can RTE cope with launching?

Gerry isn't a chat king. If the surveys are correct his radio listenership is getting older and smaller as people turn over from 2FM to a superior Ray Darcy on Today FM

If he is getting a pay rise for this new show, will he be taking forever to decide whether to take it just like his endless pondering over a paycut last year?

    Chat King?

More like Fat King... will he still be gorging himself on burgers and kebabs while interviewing his guests?

I'm so glad I've left Ireland and dont have to pay a licence for this nonsense anymore.

It infuriates me that any decent Irish talent is snapped up by the British stations (Dara O Briain etc...) while we continue to have the granny pleasers paid huge wages to host outdated formats. Those wages could have been used to keep talent or produce quality programming.

Even talent that has stayed at home has gone independant (Ray Darcy for one, who i believe is far superior to Tubridy)

Gerry Ryan should never have got past college radio. Funnily enough Joe Duffy actually had some broadcasting talent until he became the radio version of the Daily Mail.

You expect Irish television to compete with UK television for wages? Get real will you.

    Dara O'Briain is a douche.

I'm glad he went to England

Great, thats all we need now. Gerry Ryan with his big fat head on saturday night TV

Mr I will ask questions to the guest but answer them myself with my own opinion before giving them the chance to answer the thing.
They should just put him on the box on his own, he'd love an hour a week to just talk about himself

    Maybe he can

    MAKE

    THINGS

    MORE

    DRAMATIC

    BY

    PUTTING

    BIG

    GAPS

    BETWEEN

    WORDS

    LIKE

    ON

    THE

    FAT

    PROGRAM

While some of the more established stars are on astronomical wages, alot of the Irish talent aren't even on full time contracts, and are working freelance, yet still are given opportunity to be part of better produced programming.

RTE pait Pat Kenny close to €1,000,000 per annum and others weren't far behind. Apart from Wogan and Graham Norton, you wont find any Irish talent paid anywhere near that in the UK.

Im not talking about a total wage restructuring, I'm just talking about directing resources appropriately to ensure expected standards are met.

jesus, even Jim Beglin has taken the shilling, and he's one of the worst sports pundits I've heard, albeit still superior to RTE's jobs for the boys policy.

What would be wrong with RTE producing shows that sell internationally and then filtering down earnigns from syndication? how much was spent of Stew (awful "comedy" sketch show)? Sold absolutely nothing Internationally.

Its not a matter of competition, its a matter of appropriate use of existing resources. RTE do not do this, and giving Gerry Ryan a new show is a clear example of how clueless they are.

Nice. She did indeed. The Saturday night show is like a game of musical chairs involving overweight, ponderous talentless hacks.

Darcy is a little midget twat.

I'd prefer Ryan over him any day, and that's saying something.

No new ideas same old dross. Fresh new talent or a guy with numerous failed tv projects behind him .....secrets, Ryan town, Gerry Ryan tonight..
Do RTE have no innovation at all?

The self styled G Ryan is a master of all media. Witness it on his last show - Operation Transformation. On it he took command of the radio, the web, and the tv. He undoubtedly deserves his own show. His wit and unique POV on life in general needs an outlet to be heard. IMO he's the best broadcaster since Gay.

Can anyone come up with a list of all his failed shows. There has to be at least 10 so far. During the 90's he had a new one at least every two years.

Ryan has hosted several series of television shows, including Secrets, Gerry Ryan Tonight, Ryantown, Gerry Ryan's Hitlist and Operation Transformation. He currently presents Ryan Confidential, which recently finished its sixth series on RTÉ One.
That's from wiki though, so don't know if there's more.

    heehee where is Degsy?

He's still banned, seemingly! If he gets word of this, he'll be bashing his head off his keyboard in frustration! :pac:

RTE need to look outside their tiny gene pool and find some new talent. All they've done for the past number of years is churn out new shows or rehashed versions of shows with the same boring presenters, or give key positions to relatives of their big "stars".
