I've had a strong suspicion that Benzema will end up at City next year ever since the rumours emerged that he could already be shipped out of Madrid. I still feel he's one of the best young talents in football, and that under Fergie's guidance we could genuinely have the next Ronaldo on our hands if we got hold of him. And no, not Cristiano..... Just my opinion.

    blasphemy!

but sure i guess people have been wrong in comparing strikers to God before, i remember when Adriano was gonna be the next Ronaldo

Benzema has looked a good player anytime I've seen him, but at Madrid he looks overweight or something. Just doesn't look up the pace over there for some reason. If we could get him on a cut-price deal it'd be a good piece of business.

    Benz has undoubted quality.

    why?

i have made it my business to watch alot of this lad for the last 3 years, he has had one very good season in Ligue 1, one alright season in Ligue 1 and he has been a flop in a better league, which i find strange for a striker considering the better service he gets and the better players around him

But then again, people still tell me Ben Arfa is one of the worlds best too

i guess everyone is going to have different opinions on hyped players

    From Madrid, I'd prefer Higuain.

I know, to compare anyone to Ronaldo is a sin, but Benzema's style at Lyon was freakishly similar to Ronaldo's at Madrid/World Cup 2002. Could score from pretty much anywhere with either foot. If he was available for £25 mill, Id jump at it. Whether we need a striker or not is another thing, obviously there are more important priorities but if he was being shipped out at about that price, I'll hire a young lad to stand outside OT with a "Please sign Benzema" cardboard sign.

One alright season? That season it was pretty much him and Juni who scored ANY of the goals. He was actually overplayed as we were so reliant on him. He was outstanding aswell in the champions league and with the France national team, despite being maligned and messed about by Domenech.

Ben Arfa is blighted by a horrible attitude. When Benz needs to adjust he will. Madrid is full of politics, namely Raul, talk to any Spanish fan in the know, ala Graham Hunter, anyone with eyes can see Benzema is a top footballer.

    Never gonna happen.

I will cry if we sign Benzema.

i just cant understand the love for him!

as Mitch said, from Real i would have Higuain any day of the week over him

i can think of plenty of strikers i would prefer at the club actually, but i dont think thats a department that needs strengthening right now

I was aiming for a more realistic target. I think Madrid have finally realised how to use Higuain, and there's no chance of letting him go this year.

As for Benzema and hype, when he was with them, I saw about 25 matches per season (was good friends with a French lad who lived over here for a couple years, and he had access to all their matches). I was very impressed by him, and its easy to see why people have labelled him as nothing but hype at Madrid, but like I said, I think under Fergie, he would be dy-no-miiiiiite.

He's had personal problems adjusting and apparently hasn't picked up any of the language. People often forget how young he is and that he hadn't even moved out when he played for Lyon, he was utterly at home there.

Would make me sick to see him in a Manchester United jersey though.:)

tell you what, rather then me asking them, you ask Redout or Eze who both post here what they think of him, they watch as much Spanish football as Mr. Hunter

re: Raul, not sure what your point is?

Benzema will never make the Madrid starting 11 as they play a 4-4-2 with Ronaldo and Higuain up front. I am fearful he could be another Berbatov if we sign him tbh.

funnily enough he was doing interviews in November saying he finally felt settled and was going to show his best form from now on

i have to say i would take what he says himself rather then what you think no disrespect

He wouldnt be as good as Berba pal :)

Even nursing an injury Berba is showing good form

Why would I ask someone else? I've seen him play lots of times, in real life also. I don't need anyones opnion on him to be honest, you asked me why.:)

I'm actually just relaying what Graham Hunter said LAST WEEK. He hasn't adjusted well and has admitted he's having trouble with Spanish.

About Raul, Benzema clearly doesn't like playing with him, he said in an interview he prefers playing with a more "mobile" striker. If you watch the earlier games, it's actually Kaka who's treading on Benzs toes. Reckon Madrid will sell Kaka?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

Benzema has talent, he just needs to nurture it.

At Real Madrid it just wont happen as he is only limited to appearances when someone is injured.

If he wants to improve he needs to go somewhere were he will be a first choice.

I wouldnt be surprised if Real offered him to Valencia as part of a deal for Villa.

At a club like Valencia he would be top dog.

same as yourself i dont need to ask anyone else to form my opinion, but you had said that any spanish fan could tell me how good he is, so i simply said why dont you ask one of the big spanish football fans on here and see if even they agree with you :)

no big deal either way, i have also watched most of his games for Lyon and Madrid the past 3 years and i just dont see it, (i of course acknowledge that he is a good player) he was over hyped unfortunately for him and that will put more pressure on him

    Jez, fairly snappy replies Kryogen!

Higuain is playing super stuff but if Benzema was given the same opportunities he has, I'd imagine he'd be doing likewise. Ultimately he's wasted at Real whilst he's sitting on the bench. His talent was there to be seen before he moved and you don't just lose it overnight. Would be worth a punt at a decent price but can't see him going anywhere.

but Raul is no longer a starter there? if he is going to be starting he will be partnering either Ronaldo, when played up top, or Higuain

Yes, and I stand by that, anyone who knows Spanish football should be able to see Benzs quality.:)

But you DID ask why originally, I never asked you why or what anyone elses opinion of him was. I said if they know him, they should be able to see how good he is.:)

I don't think its unfortunate, in fact, I think there's more pressure on Kaka.

yep, i also feel he was young enough that if he had made a better choice on where he went to play he would have turned out better, cant see it at Madrid myself

I just thought it was crazy coming into a World Cup year that he would threaten his NT place.

Yep, and was also injured. He still has scored a few goals, but Raul still has influence in the dressing room.

    he has had opportunities though

he hasnt delivered, for whatever reasons, and all the excuses in the world wont change that so the best thing he could do is get away as quick as possible and get his career back on track

i would be disgusted if United went after him again after he turned us down last year, and i would be even more disgusted if we were willing to pay 25 million for him, that money would be better spent elsewhere

Raul is not first choice anymore so playing with him on the pitch wont be an issue

Raul is also one of the deadliest finishers to have played the game and if Benz couldnt work with that then thats on him im afriad, i know of course some partnerships just dont work even when they should on paper

but its now a void issue as Raul is firmly 3rd choice

he wasnt in the first 11 there either though in fairness, not regularly was he? i didnt think he was anyway

but i agree, his move to real was a bad decision by him and it may cost him alot in terms of development unfortunately for him

Yeah, and Higuain is banging in goals, so is C.Ronaldo, so Benz is gonna find it hard to get in. Funnily enough they have an interesting game against Lyon midweek....

He started I think the first game at the Euro championships, and was on the bench in the next two. France were dreadful in those 2 and were much better when came on in both.

But anyway, he was manificent and playing every game at Lyon, not so at Madrid.

Lads Higuain was bangin them in last season too.

He was Madrid's top scorer last season so its not a case of him just starting to do it now and keep Benzema on the bench.
