    Fri: Rest

    Sat: 20.5k in 1hr 46mins.

    Weekly Total 51.4k

    Sun: Rest (well, hiking)

Lovely LSR on Saturday in the Phoenix Park, first ever run there and I really enjoyed it. Felt grand for most of it but as usual the legs were resisting towards the end. Might be good to get up to a higher distance in training so the 20k runs feel easy. Not able to run as much as I'd like right now but still getting in okay training.

Mon: 15k a bit all over the place

Last nights run was probably the worst of my life. I´d planned on a nice easy 8k with the wife until it turned into me doing 4min/km´s around the Rathgar/Rathmines area looking for her. She decided to go back after half way because of a sore knee, but despite her never being in the area before, not having money to call anyone (or numbers for that matter), very little english and not really knowing where we lived (only moved in 3 days ago) we thought it would be grand and she could just find her way back the way we came. Problem is all the roads look the same and sure enough she got lost. So in the end she asked another runner for help and thankfully they could communicate enough to figure out where the house was. In the meantime, I was busy doing probably a PB for lots of distances looking for her. A night to forget!!!

    Tue: Rest

    Wed: 9.3k very easy

My legs were so sore at the start of this run I almost turned around and called it a day. Glad I continued and in the end I got a few extra miles in the legs and sorted the legs out in the process. Nice run.

    Thurs: Rest

My legs are still pretty sore after mondays exploits. New pains I´ve never had before, pretty strange. Well, despite that I´m signed up for the St. Patricks Day 5k and looking forward to it. I may take tomorrow off as well just to make double sure I can get decent training in next week.

    Fri: Rest

    Sat: 21k LSR 8.16min/mile

    Weekly Total 45.3k/28.1 miles

Exact same route as last week. I decided to take it easy with the race next week and my legs with lots of aches and pains. Felt terrible at the start but by the time I got to Phoenix Park I was feeling good and pushed it on a bit. The conditions were perfect for running in the park today, really enjoyed it.

    Sun: Rest

    Mon: 8k easy

Legs incredibly stiff these days, might be the lack of recovery run.

    Tue: Rest

Wed: 8k with a few 200m sprints in the middle

    Thurs: Rest

    Fri: 6.5k Nice and easy

Keeping it easy this week with the 5k on Sunday in mind. Should be a good one, but my legs are still stiff all the time so I´ll need a good warm up to get them going. Still aiming for 18:30, but I have no idea if that´s realistic or not. We´ll see on the day :)

First race of the year for me and it was always going to be a test of where I stood fitness and speed wise. My leg muscles had been very tired over the last two weeks and I was worried it would effect me on the day. So the aim was sub 18:30 for the day.

I did nothing strange for preparation, early breakfast and lounged around waiting to walk down to the start line (15 mins from the house :p). Registered and between everything I didn´t warm up at all. I was a bit back at the start and behind a good few people I knew shouldn´t have been there  Anyway, I weaved past a lot of people in the first stretch up Dawson Street and had no idea what speed I was going (I never do actually!) just hoping it wasn´t too fast. Well, I gradually kept passing people out for most of the race, I don´t think anyone passed me out which I was happy with. Legs were tired going into the 4th km but I pushed it to the back of my mind and kept concentrating on the plan. I hadn´t really looked at the route so I wasn´t so sure what time I was going to do until I came into the final stretch and it said 17mins. I legged it from there and got in in 17:41 (according to my watch) which is a PB (my first 5k :p). My wife came in in her goal time (under 25mins) of 24:17, very happy with that.

Very happy with my mental attitude in this race and it´s definitely a key part in getting a good race time. Probably won´t race again until summer because of exams but I´ll keep it tapping over anyway.

I hadn´t thought about that. The 10k will be a hard one! You did a great race yourself. I think I saw you actually, were you wearing a boards ac jersey?

That was Chinguetti. I was talking to him after the race. I have a similar hair colour ;)

Haven't posted on ure log in a while (have been reading!), but well done today, 17:40 for 5k is brilliant running!

Cheers tisnotover. Nice getting under the 18 but it puts the pressure on in the future now! Good luck next week. Your on flying form yourself. What are you hoping to do it in?

But isn't that the beauty of getting a PB like that. It opens up a new set of PB targets for ya at other distances. Keep tipping away at the training lad+you'll have a good summer!

    P.S. targetting 62:xx next wk.

Yeah, your right. Was looking at McMillan and there´s some tough ones at other distances now  Especially the 10k.

That´ll be a great time for 10 miles. Good luck

    Mon: Rest

    Tue: Rest

    Wed: 6.5k easy

Lovely run today, the weather´s definitely getting a bit warmer now. I took monday off completely from all training which I then realised was my first day off training in more than a month because I do pretty hard training for my climbing and weights on my "Rest" days.

So, naturally my minds been wondering to the next race and it´s going to be the Dunshaughlin 10k in June. Training won´t be as good as I would like it to be. I´m going to try for an LSR, an easy run and one hard session (hill repeats, intervals, tempo etc) per week. I think it should be enough for now. I´m going to aim for under 37mins, lets see what happens!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭another world

Thurs: Rest, well I ran to and from the climbing gym with a bag on my back. Sore back today :( so won´t be doing that again!

    Fri: 11.5k easy

A bit too easy in the end but I´m okay with that at the moment. One easy session a week is grand. 21k planned on Sunday in Phoenix Park.

    Sat: Rest

    Sun: 21k LSR 8:15min/mile

This felt really hard. Just felt heavy and the legs were exhausted. My rhythm was all over the place as well and I was probably doing under 7min/miles at some stages and then going really slow. Oh, well. LSR in the bag at least :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭another world

    Mon: Rest 1hr Stretching

    Tue: Rest

    Wed: 11.5k Tempo

I don´t have garmin or anything like that so no idea what speed I was doing in the middle but felt like it was just above 6min/mile for around 5k. Felt comfortable, however, just before my shins were a bit sore and towards the end my left knee was sore. I´ll take the next run nice and easy.

I was thinking about races this year and I´ll hopefully do the following:

    Dunshaughlin 10k (June)
    Adidas Half Marathon (September)
and I´m half thinking about the Dublin Marathon but I´ll see how time and training goes until the end of summer.

    Thurs: Rest

    Fri: 14k very very easy

With the few niggles from Wednesday in mind I did this run at a pretty slow pace. Ran it with the OH who is trying to get her LSRs up a bit as well so it worked out good. No running for the weekend unfortunately.

    Sat: Rest

    Sun: Rest

    Mon: 7k easy

My knee´s been at me for the last two days and it´s caused me to reassess my training. I think it´s because of the lack of recovery runs in my schedule, so they´re back and it looks like I´ll be running 5/6 days a week. Same thing happened me last year (but more extreme, out for a month) when I did the 3 day week thing. I´ll take it easy for the rest of the week although.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭another world

Been a while since I´ve logged in here! The running´s been terrible. Basically, I took a week off just out of laziness really. I did, however, keep climbing and I took a fall one day landing really badly on my foot, so much so that I heard a noise and felt a pretty bad pain. The idiot inside me didn´t take heed to this and decided to return to running the next day. I did, and actually got a good week in, but a lot of the time in pain in this particular leg, from my foot to my knee. Well, I had to stop and I haven´t run in a week or so now. It´s actually getting worse as well, and today I could barely walk. Going to start with icing it today and just keep resting away. I´ll see how that goes for a week or so.

The moral is, there are some injuries you just can´t run through!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭another world

Attempted a run yesterday and I had to turn around after a kilometre or so. Frustrating!!! Still a bit sore today in the ankle, calve and shin area on my left leg. I really want to run, especially in this weather and to at least have some fitness for a race in June. Anyway, may have to bite the bullet and make a visit to a physio.

(I'm living in colombia for now)
    Mark

    Hey mate,

Sorry for bringing up the past, I see from you log its been a while since you lived there but I'm going to Colombia for 3weeks after my Edinburgh marathon, and want to keep up the training a few days a week before I start my next training plan....

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

BTW, good 5k time on Paddys day, keep it up when the injury clears!

    Hey seanynova

It really depends on what part of the country you´re going to. In Bogotá the best place is probably in Parque Simon Bolivar, which is the biggest park in the city and it´s got a nice route around the lake there.
On Sundays they close off the streets all around Bogotá so you´ll have no problem then and it´s a great day as well. Other than that you can run pretty much anywhere in the north of the city (don´t go to the south!!!), there´s a few parks that I can recommend if you want.

You´ll be there in June right? If so, there´s a few races as well. Even just for the experience it could be good.

If you want to know anything else just let me know.

    Hey, thanks for the info!

Ya, I'll be there in June, but travelling around, no set itinerary yet but I'll be starting in Bogota and ending in Cartagena, a 3 week trip in total.
It will be just after my marathon so will be looking to keep in a little shape, a race would be good!
I did try and google some but havent found any links but that might be because of my lack of Spanish!

Must start reading my Footprints, didnt know about the South of the city!

Thanks for the help mate, looks like I'll be bringing my trainers! happy days...

I'm finally back running again. Unfortunately, exams, looking for work and plantar fascitis have pretty much kept me out of training for the last month and a half, thankfully that's all been sorted now and I can get started on my goals for the summer. The reason for the injury seems seems to have been because of my runners, so I've changed them for Asics GT 2150, been foam rolling like crazy and standing on an ice pack morning and evening. I'll keep doing this for a few more weeks I reckon.

I got out this morning and did a very comfy 7k. The plan now is get sub 40 in Dunshaughlin on the 26th and then start a half marathon plan and do the Adidas Series.
