I handed my laptop into Harvey Norman to have the antivirus updated with Bullguard. Since I have it back neither IE nor Chrome appear to be working. I am using Vodafone connect dingle for my broadband so am wondering is there some kind of conflict between all these combinations out there. Can anyone help please ?

    <snip> Irrelevant rant removed

Better to remove all this anti-virus crapware and install http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

You may have to re-install your operating system and applications, depending on the damage done. Be sure to back up your data before doing so.

Rant removed. The OP asked for help with the problem. Not for an opinion on Harvey Norman in general and he certinly did not want to know what you thought of their advertising. Which BTW obviousally works as you rembember it so well.

This may not even be related to security on the PC.
Before taking the drastic step of reinstaling the operating system try uninstalling Bullguard. if that fails try system restore to a point prior to the update.
Is IE or Chrome opening at or or are you getting programme not responding?

I loaded the free version of Bullguard onto 2 laptops, had no issues with one but had serious conflicts with the other and decided to reformat it from scratch again.

Did you discover what software the conflict(s) were with?

OP, has your license expired on the Bulldog Antivirus by any chance?

A previous client encountered no internet access at all once her Bulldog license expired - a safety mechanism to ensure she was protected before going back online
