By the way, special mention to Park for yesterdays performance. One of the best players on the park (see what I did there?).

He may not steal many headlines, and may not be the most conventional winger in the league, but he does it time and again in our big games and you know you've got nothing to worry about when his name is on the teamsheet.

    +1

He does get a lot of stick in here but like Carrick/O'Shea etc are the types of players you need to win titles.

Please God no injuries from these stupid friendlies this week.

fair play to him, he was good yesterday. will need more good performances from him to win me over though.

Too often he is a nearly player.

    Nearly getting the pass right.

    Nearly getting past the player.

Nearly getting on the end of a cross.

    Nearly scoring.

Yesterday though, he did look dangerous.

I have a feeling Rooney may have aggravated that phantom knee/flu injury during his excessive final whistle celebrations yesterday, and will unfortunately have to miss out on the Egypt game :(

    :)

    i like the sig arch.

M.E.N gave carrick a rating of 8/10. iirc they said he controlled the game, i was pretty surprise by it

I refuse to comment on Carrick's performance. I was defending him furiously in here before kick off, and then he repays me by playing like....like....like that.

Strange thing is, all we've seen from him in the past would indicate that, in theory, he should take a good free kick. lol to that theory!

Me too, cos clearly it was Berbatov who controlled the game

Berbatov was class. I'll never get sick of watching that "I dont give a fúck" backheel flick for Valencia's assist for Rooney.

Plus the backheel to set up Carrick

Plus the backheel to set up Park

Plus the ball through for Mickey Owen when he did his hamstring -- d'oh ! :p

We're coming up to our 1000th page here lads! Its been another great season to discuss so far. :)

Berba made a couple of tackels as well, great overall performance, try telling that to paddy mulligan or eamon dunphy though.

Thought Carrick was quite poor yesterday and I'm usually a big fan of his.

Surprised by an 8/10 rating from anyone.

you could change your setting from 15 posts per page to 40. It helps not having to constantly open new pages as things move along... I'm only on page 375 or so.

    375 for me...

    Great season alright though.

Most entertaining for a long time.

I'll admit I hope Arsenal have a great run in and push us all the way to the wire to spice things up...

On the whole berbatov trying and effort thing - you do wonder how Cantona would have been recieved on message boards had they been around at the time. Both similar type players IMO, as in often perceived to be a luxury and not trying.

Not trying to say Berbatov is as good as Cantona before I get attacked just comparing their perceived styles.

I think Catona posessed a little more urgency that Berbatov though. Sometimes Berbatov holds it up for a little too long.

I am a huge fan of Berbatov though. I love his ball retention and link up play.

In the last couple of games Berba-Roon-Valencia have create their own little trinity of sorts (and yes Dave, Berba can be God). Valencia gives a fantastic outlet just being out on the touchline and Dimi can find him easily. From then, as long as the ball is in the penalty area Rooney will 100% get a header on it :D

I think berbas price tag is one the main reasons for his criticism, if we had of picked him up for 10-15 million there wouldnt have been as much hype around his signing and expectaton to what was a ridicoulous amount of money, as for cantona, he was the bargain of the decade

Ray Houghton was on Sky sports earlier saying Carrick had a great game. How anyone on this is comparing Berbatov to Cantona is beyond me. Put Berbatov in with Hughes instead of Cantona in 1992 and see where we would be now!!!!

Cantona was more of a leader, took games by the scruff of the neck.

Very dissimilar to Berbatov tbh, the comparisons are fairly misguided imo.

That's a shocking thing to say. Of all the players to pick.

I don't know how many set pieces i watched, not clear the 1st man. Very poor.

Carrick did have a good game.

but like Lucas on our side, many have their minds made up about him, so sometimes it's hard to notice.

it was only his God-awful free kicks that really let him down.

Have to say I disagree. Im one of Carricks biggest fans (see this thread before kickoff yesterday for an example) but he had an awful first half yesterday, and only a decent second half. His free kicks were awful, he was really slow both on the ball and in picking out his passes, and picked up a silly yellow card to top it off. He won't have as bad a game for the rest of the season.
