    While it has only been hinted at for in previous posts, it is clear that double standards are applying in peoples opinions of this case.

    The report of the case on BBC is very matter of fact with very little emotional language. Posts here are more concerned about the brand of runners etc and most people recognise the humour (sick operhaps) in this. Dont get me wrong, I think he should have gone for Nikes ha ha!

    Anyway, had the sexes been reversed in this, the report would have concentrated on how "heinous" the act was, using words like paedophile a dn "sick". If it had been a man giving a girl a bag for their 100th time, had someone suggested that it mightnt have been so bad if it was a Gucci, that person would probably be sin binned for making fun of this.

    It is a sad reflection that perhaps we judge young men very differently when it comes to sex. Surely this boy was sexually abused no different to had it been a girl (and yes I know there are biological differences but it is assumed that children dont have the mental capacity to make decisions in matters of sex). I guess it probably goes back to the whole idea that boys are "sowing their wild oats" etc and that he was consenting therefore its ok. Similarly if we look at cases of unlawful carnal knowledge where both participants are under legal age. The boy in this case can be prosectued whereas the female will not.

    What do ya think?

    I think it's disgusting and depraved it that had been my 12 year old i would locked up by now for serious assault maybe murder....

    I was at least 20 before i'd clocked up 200 rides!!
    I know it's an appaling double standard but it just doesn't seem as bad as if it was a middle aged man and a 12 year old girl. I know it is, just doesn't seem it. I think if it was your daughter youd be devestated that some dirty old man had molested your baby girl, your son, you'd still hit the roof obviously but you'd kinda secretly think, go you little stud too. Assuming he wasn't forced of course or anything like that.
    I've a feeling that will be controversial, but i think a lot of blokes would secretly see it that way
