I was out supporting the banquo with jpcarlow for a while, I met barleybooley also. Both nice folk. Also was chatting to leopoldbloom for a while. I saw PrivateEye for a bit too as I was heading off the banquo-campaign.

We must meet at another stage :)

    Definitely! :)

I tried to mix supporting Rob and Aengus....still have the t-shirts if you want them back guys! :pac:

As an aside, I was very disappointed in some of Touhy's and Gav's supporters. At around the 17.00 mark, as lots of people were exiting John Hume, they lined the entrance cheering people who were leaving.

Not too bad, but once people wearing "Rob for Comms" t-shirts walked through, they all booed. Very bad form.

Yes, they were singing 'don't vote for Rob' and similar ditties on other occasions as well.

What time is the count starting tomorrow?

10am. Starting in reverse order I believe i.e. Irish+Cultural first with President being announced last.

    Heya guys,

Just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last two weeks... I'm not going to get into names because I won't remember RL and boardsie names- but you all know who you are and you deserve a huge pat on the back (or else one of my 500 awesome rice krispie buns with sprinkles...!)

I was going to reply to some of the posts about hustings, thanking some people for their encouragement and replying to others to explain my stance but then I realised there was no point. People have their opinions, nothing can change that but I hope I came across as really wanting this and proving that I can make a change.

I've completely exhausted myself (getting up to be in JH every morning to post-it the place before the cleaners get in is quite tiring, especially if you're burning the candle at both ends and running to Tesco at 4 o clock in the morning to get cooking chocolate for rice krispie buns!) but it's been completely worth it. Fair play to every single one of the candidates that have played fairly in the race and I wish you the best of luck.

May the best man/ woman win :):):)

    So it supports choice?

Look, I don't want to get into a debate about this, but you have to admit leaflets only saying USI supports abortion is clearly not the way to go about a campaign.

It's a choice that most people in Ireland think that people shouldn't have.

There have been a good few referendums on it in Ireland even recent and it has remained illegal. I didn't know the USI was Pro-Choice, I'm actually confused as to why the hell they'd even be involved in the whole thing?

I'm not saying i'm pro-life, but if people will be giving money to the USI then the fact that they support abortion becomes important.

I really have no idea why they would take a stance on it though, crazy.

i think it maybe be because they see themselves as lobbying force to the government and also because i think maybe it's better, in student politics, to be pro-choice rather than pro-life. I agree that they don't need to take a stance on it but they have. I myself am definitely pro-life and wouldn't be comfortable supporting a pro-choice campaign but i also know that there are loads of people who are pro-choice, especially a lot of interest groups, in general terms of course, I cannot speak for other people, maybe this is why they felt the need to take a stance so as they could win their support? I don't know, I'm just guessing.

I am completely against USI, as i've said, but I'd love to know who published the flyers as I think it made a mockery of the "no" side of the argument to be completely honest.

^^ Is it not divisive for USI take such a stance? Is it not better that the SU hold policies that are applicable to all students first and foremost?

but it's not applicable to all students. not all students are pro-choice so how can it be?

That's exactly my point. Joining USI would be divisive to a certain degree, many students don't agree with legalising abortion. There is no reason to lobby the Government on abortion, let Choice Ireland do that for pro-choice, and other groups for pro-life.

Riiight I'm locking this before it goes way too off topic. A new thread with the results in a few days will be nice and clean.
