Anonymous vs. Australia

    http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2010/02/anonymous-unfurls-operation-titstorm/
Several Australian government websites were slowly recovering Wednesday hours after the online prankster group Anonymous unleashed a massive distributed denial-of-service attack to protest the country’s evolution toward internet censorship.

The group, which previously brought down Scientology’s websites has also undertaken a host of other online pranks. It dubbed the new attack “Operation Titstorm” to protest the government’s move to require the filtering of pornography that uses adult actors if they appear underage. Violent material targeting children is also to be censored.

Anonymous’ past targets include uncool virtual worlds, an epilepsy message board and a Neo-Nazi webcaster. The group sent Australian media e-mail messages warning of the attack, the Sydney Morning Herald said.

Interesting. Personally, I think Anonymous are sometimes on the ball with their campaigns. Their clash with Scientology for example. Internet censorship is a very serious issue, so I'd also give them a thumbs up for this, although it's probably not going to do them any good and could perhaps even making the situation worse.

    Thoughts?

Generally don't have much time for hackers (or crackers, whatever)
But Internet censorship in a westen democracy, a common law country...
    Good on 'em

Currently living in Australia and I would be more concerned with the fact that my tax money would be wasted trying to censor the internet which they really wont be able to do. With a bit of effort you will still be able to see whatever you want on the net.

Sure, but that's not really the issue, is it? It's with the government taking steps towards censorship.

So does this mean that Britney Spears is banned over there?

Seiously, though, at least they're doign somethign about it. Not saying that they are right or wrong, but protest is better than sitting on your backside moaning.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Funny, I hope this snowballs and spreads to other countries that goes down this route. :)

Its all just talk "Won’t somebody please think of the children!"

    It’s not going to happen.

Australia are bad for the censorship on entertainment (Games, TV & Film, etc)

Filtering the internet is like trying to remove milk from your tea. (Hmm.......)

I had forgotten about that. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ipag_britney-spears-hit-me-baby-one-more_people

    Still, its not pornography.

Why did anonymous attack an epilepsy message board?

It wasn't really an attack. Some idiot thought it would be hilarious to post up flashing .gifs on the message board.

    LOL WOT!
Austrailia hopes to censor the internet - aye, like that has worked very well for the Chinese. LOL
Come on Austrailian government. Have ye a bit touched in the head or has ex-pres' Bush been visiting infecting ye all with his madness?

"Anonymous" don't have any one goal or leader, and quite frankly it's quite easy to use the name. Some people prefer to take on humane cause such as this and against Scientology, while others will do horrible things such as that attack. Some will both, "for the lulz"

When it comes to the Australia attacks, I fully agree

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Bush was the American president, not Australian.

I didn't. Sometimes anonymous pranks are absolutely genius and are truly epic lulz, but that was just malicious. Getting Oprah Winfrey to say "Over 9000 penises!" on the other hand, is absolutely brilliant.

I didn't think we were allowed mention that site here...:D

The important thing is that if internet censorship comes to Ireland not only will we do this, we will also do the 10,000 letters idea that was proposed for something else (a letter is far less ignorable than an email).

What, 4chan? I think people frown on the site, but I do believe I've mentioned it plenty of times. I'm looking at a thread about Operation Titstorm on there now, and it's epic. They're attempting to bring down the Australian stock exchange website at the moment.

Not a great idea for an attack on censorship but its nice to see something is being done. The Ozzies seem to have a really stern opinion on outside influences and the net/games just seems to be the most recent.

Epic, absolutely epic. Absolutely love the idea of anonymous, and love ED as well ^^

Well my thread on some kids attack on 4chan and anonymous (which I know was trollbait but whatever) got closed. Suppose mentioning it isn't too bad o.O

I think they're pretty dangerous and get involved in things they don't really know much about. I personally wouldn't promote anything they do, or want anything to do with them.

Damnit.. I'd find a clip but Youtube is blocked in work :(

    EPIC Stuff..
Kind of brought 4chan into the spotlight a bit tho, and was a contributing factor to it being taken down for a couple of weeks.

    Found it.

So they just posted a message on her website?

I was hoping for something a bit more, I dunno, better.

Apparently they have gov.au or some main government site down for 40 hours now, and the media is downplaying it as 50 mins under government instruction.

They are censoring the government for censoring them, I am in full support TBH, no vote on the issues the gov have censored would have passed, it is dictated censorship. Women with small breasts banned from being in porn because they look like children is the logic, FFS, get a set of vile plastic airbags surgically deforming your body and its ok.

Australia is a holy joke for censorship.
