1998 - s-works - what's it worth?

a mate has a 1998 s-works sitting around. It was kitted out in the day, lx or xt groupset, magura hydraulic brakes, hope hubs built up on bomb proof rims. It has manitou forks on it.

He bought it second hand in good nick, used it once and it's been sitting up since. One or two mechanical issues of uncertain origin.

I figure to get it back on the road would require - full service, hubs would probably need attention? I think the forks (although very good ones at the time) may have been elastomer - those have probably degraded to the point of replacement -can they be replaced, or are they consigned to history?
brakes would need to be bled and sorted.
You're prob looking at a bill of €100/150 for what I've listed. The bike is only of limited value to me - for my gf who will prob use it just as much as my mate has ever done!

What's a fair price? I had been thinking 200 / 250 as it's not worth much more to me, and by the time you've spent the repairs you've 400 down. C2W would buy a pretty neat machine for that net spend.

So is it worth doing? and what's a fair price?

almost certain this is the bike, albeit with upgraded hubs and brakes. In the green.
XTR finishing doesn't ring true (years since I've seen the bike)

    What size is it?

I'm gonna say 16" frame. Not entirely sure.

I have offered to buy it from my mate. But want to be sure I'm offering him a fair enough price. Haven't a load to spend on it, and my offer reflects that. If my offer is market he'll accept. If it's not, I'll withdraw.

It'd be very hard to say what it might be worth without seeing it. It sounds well equiped but a lot would obviously depend on the condition and how much work would be required. I guess it might well need new forks though if it's not being used for serious mtbing then what's on it might be okay. The best thing your mate could do is get an independent opinion from a good bike shop.
Of course if you do buy it and need a new headset you know who has one....!
