What is the Philippines like...

I'm heading over to a wedding in Manila later in the year... I'll have a week or so to do things/be a silly tourist. Is there much to do and moreover is it safe? Or should I just go to the wedding and go somewhere else in SE Asia?

I was there in 2007, most of the bar are girls (mini-skirt and all) operated, was a bit of fun,
