IMO, it's interesting to note that there's less emphasis on the use of 'RAG' week, on the hoodies, UCC Express and the advertisments like above they're referring to it as R&G week etc. Probably trying to shrug off the 'RAG week' in terms of advertisment. Now it's Raise and Give and so on.

The SU have said that themselves. RAG week is associated nowadays with binge drinking and couches on fire on college road. Calling it raise and give does take away the drinking image and makes it look like the whole week is actually for collecting for charity.

Does this mean my evening jogging in and around Mardyke and the street ahead of Prez will be disturbed by drunken morons?

Life itself will be disturbed by drunken morons.

Anyone else disappointed with the crapness of the R&G hoodies this year

After the song and dance the SU put on about selecting from a host of manufacturers, mono colour hoodies with screen printing on them is the pits

What do people think of the amazing SU slogan on these drinking posters "Don't be a wanker, don't drink in public".

Another fantasticly grown up piece of work by the SU.

I never once said I'd do better, but I'd like to think that common sense would prevail when doing basic things such as coming up with a slogan discouraging people from drinking in public. "Don't be a wanker". Is that really the best that that bunch of useless ***** could come up with?

it doesn't have to be the most sensible or hard-hitting slogan. if people see it everywhere, it'll stick. if people see it and think "what a f*cking useless slogan" like you did, it'll stick in their heads even more. like how you see annoying ads on tv and say you hate them, but their job's done because it's impacted on you.

but anyway, what would you put on the poster? i'm assuming you've got a work of unparalleled genius lined up to blow us all away and expose the SU for the fools they are...

Why would you assume that? Have I indicated anywhere that I am brimming with creative genius?

well if you can't come up with a better slogan, i think it's a little incredibly hypocritical to give out about someone else's "****e" slogan.

Here are some better slogans. If you think that "dont be a wanker" is better than any of these, then I suggest you partake in a taste comparison test between cyanide and orange juice.

"Don't drink in public, it's illegal".

Or how about a picture of a homeless person lying asleep on a street, with an empty bottle of vodka next to them, and a caption saying "he was unlucky, do you want to be next? Drinking in public is illegal, punishable with a €63 fine."

Or maybe "Are you in such a hurry that you couldn't finish that can in your house? Take a chill pill. €63 fine"

Perhaps "€63 fine. That's €63 bottles of Labbats Ice. That's 63 minutes with a female law student in the toilets of Aras na Laoi. That's the average annual income of a CIT graduate. You don't want to throw that kind of money away by just drinking in public."

But no, the SU came along and said "Don't be a wanker"

Or if you really must persist on something that will catch peoples eyes, then perhaps include a picture of the destruction in Haiti, and a slogan along the lines of "You could waste €63 by drinking in public, or you could help give these poor orphans a lifeline. Can you live with the shame?"

    The SU

Why? Are you attempting, in some pathetic round about way, to say that I'm a wanker? Allow me to add up your reasoning. I've badmouthed the angelic student union? I've said something against them, which you haven't yet amassed the intelligence to disagree with? Your girlfriend just broke up with you after a week and you're looking for an internet argument?

Don't go around calling people names on the internet unless you have something back it up with. Special Olympics etc.

You make an awful lot of noise on an awful lot of threads, without once providing an alternative, or attempting to right the wrongs as perceived by you..

If you feel, as you clearly do, that the SU aren't quite doing their job properly then why not provide an alternative..

The phrase Keyboard warrior springs to mind.

    Fight fight fight!!!!!!

Anyway is it true that CIT's rag week is the one directly after ours? If so then cork city is gonna be a messy place at night for the next two weeks

How very pedestrian of you Papa...

Pedestrian because i'd walk all over him.

See what i did there?? :p

I'm a poster on a discussion forum, not a politician. I didn't realise that participation and input into threads required a suggested solution to follow up. The SU are of no benefit to anybody, and that's not going to change. They're a pointless body within a University, with no power whatsoever. This existence is not going to be enhanced regardless of who is leading them.

If the phrase Keyboard warrior springs to mind in relation to me, then I'll be happy to give my opinions at one of these coffee afternoons, which I've yet to attend. I was always under the impression that a keyboard warrior used insults, such as suggesting that someone is a wanker, as opposed to actually talking out against things which annoy him. I forgot that opinions weren't allowed on the internet.

Also, both you and the previous poster did a good job of complaining about how I attack the SU without offering an alternative, while then ignoring my post full of suggestions.

As witnessed in the other thread relating to alcohol consumtion among the student body, you it would seem do not plan on entertaining any opinion but your own.

It does lead me to believe that all this is rather pointless, so much so that i don't even think i commented on the other thread, or at least not in a serious manner.

I've no interest in arguing with others, hence my lack of input in that thread. Judging by the amount of replies, my original post was enough to provoke discussion.

Also, should I have a medal on standby? Just in case nobody noticed you boycotting the other thread, you've felt the need to draw attention to it here. I can feel society slowly changing to the echoes of your tune.

How very hypocrytical of you, the only person around here that appears to have a tune is you my friend.

To be fair, the slogan is simple, yet direct and to the point.
