And on that note I've just downloaded Weezers albums (well, all but one which is taking ages), I had them all but the most recent one already but they were MP3 and I decided that I wasn't some common pleb and needed them in FLAC.

FLAC is lossless. Basically this matters to 3 types of people:
- People who want more than one format/quality (high quality for the PC, low quality for MP3 player), in general a FLAC will produce a better output when converting to different formats or bit-rates, worst case scenario it's the same but it's never worse.
- People with the hearing of a dog and ridiculously expensive speakers/earphones and sound card, or an analog setup, some of which claim to be able to tell the difference, realistically though I'm not sure if there is a noticable difference between a high quality MP3, just a theoretical one.
- People who just get a little OCD about this kind of stuff.

I'd imagine most people, including myself, fall into the 3rd category.

No loss in quality, as in if you rip a CD to FLAC, then burn it back to CD the second CD will be just as high quality as the first, the same as a WAV file, but FLAC is compressed fairly well so much smaller.
If you do this with MP3 or something the second CD will be lower quality than the first, even if it's not noticable.

Downside is it takes up a lot more space (although considering the quality it's quite good) and isn't able to be played on most MP3 players.

Side note: anyone remember top 30 hit's? For those of us who didn't have the channels it was the only time you were going to see any music videos:p
