This is good news. Am I right in saying its for new customers only?

Edit: Sorry just re read, for a minute there thought the HD sub was being dropped.

    Sorry Tony :)

I just put in the offer for Existing there now :) Even just to have double the amount of space alone makes it worth it.

The guy from Sky was on Sky News this morning & clearly said that HD will now be available free of charge for existing HD customers - no more HD sub

So you get the box but not HD. The only thing stopping me is the 15 sub for HD. I mean you have to have the sports or movies to make the most of it anyway so Im not paying a HD sub on top of that.

I'll believe it when I see it (in my monthly direct debit), have heard this so many times before! :(

Sounds great at €79; quad lnb, new EPG, Sky+ recording and the option to run a new cable for the old box for Freesat use (separate from the install, obviously), but the other figures don't seem to reflect this.

    That's €159 - an €80 difference.

Four quick questions as well :

    1) Does the new EPG work properly on a non-HD TV ?
    2) Do existing Sky eyes and extra Sky remotes work properly ?
    3) If there's a Sky eye on a 2nd TV, and you put the old Sky box onto that, will the remotes interfere ? If so, is there a way around this ?
    4) Can Sky+ playback be viewed on the 2nd TV via RF2 out ?

Just scoured the sky website and there appears to be no mention of it, even in this new offer it talks about the Sky HD sub and an extra sky HD sub if you want it on multiroom. :(

    OK.. to be clear.

I have a Sky HD box that I dropped the HD sub from.. this announcement should mean that I can call them and tell them to reenable the HD versions of channels I subscribe to,... for nothing?

    Right?

To be honest i'd be surprised if it this case but Andip did say it was a sky spokesperson.

Still believe this to be unlikely in the extreme, I'm sure as a HD subscriber I would have received a later stating my sub was going down.

But why don't you ring them and put this rumour to bed?

It is clearly not true that the 15eur has been dropped for the HD pack. It is still all over the Sky website even with the new updated offers...

thought it was to good to be true, so what exactly is the offer????? If sky is ever dropped the HD sub i would consider getting sky HD in, but at the moment its to over priced.

3D is being released in April so perhaps then the HD sub will be dropped?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Wizard007

No, Sky are not dropping the HD Sub - What they are dropping is the need to Sub to the HD pack on ordering a new Sky+HD. A cutomer has a choice.

Look guys, they're never going to drop it completely in one go, what we'll see first is free HD subs for those with Premium channels and then maybe a year or two later free for all, this is the way Sky+ was priced a few years back, remember?

I agree. Maybe when 3D comes in. It's very hard to know what they're going to do next.

The rip-off HD sub is keeping me from getting Sky HD too.
not paying an extra 15 euro a month for the same channels just slightly clearer.

BSkyb, the owner of Sky News, has announced it made £401m profit in the six months to December - up 3% on the previous six months. Sky's chief executive Jeremy Darroch gave an insight into how the company plans continue growing in the future.

Ok Mea Culpa - Having rattled on about the new all in one standardised box, what he actually says is "and if you take an HD box from us you'll get that free" - meaning the box not the service.....

Well it was early ! :D

Upgrades are always more expensive Liam, now that they won't get it out of the €209 they were getting for Sky+ upgrade anymore so they've shoved up the HD upgrade without the Sub.

1 - Yes, the EPG works perfectly on a non HD TV.

2 - Yes, existing eyes work fine but you need a HD remote control ( but you do not get HD reception through a magic eye )

3 - I don't really understand this one. What do you want to do, replace the eye with the sky box? You can do this but the cable will have to come directly from the dish, not rf2.

4 - Yeah, if the magic eye is comming from rf2 then all Sky+ functions will work on the second TV.

If I've misunderstood what you're asking, apologies in advance :)

Sky have said that the 3D channel launching in april will be initially free of charge to existing HD customers. That obviously sounds like there will be a charge brought in for 3D at some time.

The good news is that all Sky+HD customers already have the set-top box they need to enjoy 3D, meaning they simply need to buy any new 3D TV,:eek::eek: all of which will work seamlessly with Sky's ground breaking new service.

how many will be getting a new €2000 tv just to watch 3D ??
