When you get UPC Phone over cable installed you only get one handset.
Has anyone purchased additional handsets themselves and if so if there any particular type you need or will the basic ones for normal phones lines do like the ones in the Argos catalogue?

    Any help appreciated :)

You can purchase additional one for 25e each from UPC but if you want to buy your own phone I believe it will need to be a Siemens make you would probably get one in Argos

Assuming it's a DECT base station they provide you with then in principle any DECT handset from any manufacturer will be able to be paired with it as long as it adheres to the GAP standard, which most do.

If the base station has any advanced features such as phone book synch, this *may* not work with all handsets though.

Thanks for the feedback, my worry is that if I buy another phone with multiple handsets that it might not work if I plug it into the cable modem. Is there any paarticular standard or protocol that I need to ensure the new phone will work on?

Im looking for the same information.UPC once told me it had to be voip compatable. Try find a standard house phone in Currys or the like that has voip on the box. I dont think so.

we're switching over tomorrow and have been told that the Siemens ones we have will more than likely be compatible.

I found UPC's Siemens ones to be awful.

I picked up a pair of BT standard cordless phones (Synergy models) and they worked fine.

Thanks for that am hoping the standard ones you see in the shops will work. I know they do a PSTN service as well as over the cable and it's the cable service I have so want to put the feelers out before I buy and see what people have experienced. So far it seems anyway that there should be no problem with the standard cordless phones on it. :)
