Rebuilding Haiti - Engineering Prespective

First thing is first and that is to prevent starvation, disease and help the injured. But behind the scenes, the rebuilding plan is already in its conceptual stage.

This will soon take on specific objectives and building firms will be given lucrative contracts to address the infrastructure needs.

It seems tough that goodwill will not sustain a rapid re-development, as was the case with Iraq, where it was is US corporate interests to rebuild that country to safeguard the flow of cheap oil. Haiti does not have any valuable assets or resources as far as I can see.

I would be interested to hear from structural engineers on if a earthquake proof infrastructure and housing can be installed in a cost effective measure in Haiti's long run. Doing so could prevent such a cataclysm in the future.

The rebuilding should be done using as much Haitin labour and workers as possible, theres no point rebuilding a country for a people if they cant do it again themselves.

You know, teach a man to fish etc.
