What speed is it supposed to be ronan? the upload speed there is decent., :)

It's not the speed thats the problem (although a few extra megs wouldnt be sneered at). IBB process their packets in a funny way which causes random spikes in the ping times, there is a massive issue with the contention ratio's on a single line (supposed to be 1:24 but we're certain that we are closer to the 1:96 level) and lastly there seems to be an issue with the way IBB process data through their system, some things seem to get marked for throttling that really shouldnt (games, FTP etc).

The upload speed is pretty good no argument but it's impossible to maintain a connection to a remote server such as EQ2, WoW, Tabula Rasa, Neocron 2, Age of Conan, Guild Wars or Warhammer. Weirdly Battlefield 2142 used to be ok but even that suffered from horrific lag, disconnection problems and myriad other hassles.

We've been fighting with them for years and would bail out to another provider except that they have an unlimited cap. Everyone else is 6gb or 8gb or 32gb with a ridiculous price.

    8201674.png meh

Try Galway as the server Billy, I was getting 198ms pings using the Limerick server, but it dropped to a farily consistent 42ms ping when I switched to Airwire's Galway server.

Got a B* on the line rating, so I'm happy enough.

As an example, here's what my results were like just now, using the Limerick and Galway server option.

    1- Limerick

    2-Galway

I was using the interweb a good bit while testing these, so the results are outside my normal ones.

I'm going to connect my PS3 to the internet for some MW2 pwnage, and I just need some advice on peripherals.

Would I need a headset, will I just hear some fat American pre-pubescent shouting "ZOMFG ur pwnt" or is the controller sufficient.

If you're wondering, I'm a complete n00b at online gaming.

You only need a head set if you want to talk to your mates and yes you will hear loads of fat americans but you can mute them (thank god ).

Here is mine. Got the 30mb upgrade there last week. I'm running wireless on my main pc, the line comes in downstairs, I'm pretty impressed, for wireless, ****s all over my old eircom line.

The ping is the most impressive for me as a gamer, with 0 packet loss.

And well, the download speaks for itself.

When plugged direct in downstairs it hits 27-29mb

I might just get the headset :D. There's nothing that confuses those Americans like a culchie accent.

Just another quick one: are the XBox and PS3 users utilising the same game servers? Would be kinda handy seeing as how most users here seem to be XBox users.

Yeah, theres a few I think.

By asking, you've probably flicked the switch that starts the Xbox vs PS3 war, you realise that, dont you ?
