Not really because you still have more than a 50% chance of getting pregnant.

To be honest I thinks the odds of me getting pregnant would be on the low end of the spectrum.

The Rythem method is fcuking ridiculous!

its so unreliable, and unless the girls cycle is nazi like strict then you just have no idea really.
at least be prepared in case temptation strikes.Preaching absention ends in more pregnancies then contraception.
    Stupid methods stupid stupid!

Siple one fairly successful rule is always carry a condom[girls should probably try this too]

You might not remember to bring one.So one sitting in your wallet can be a life saver[literally]

Anyone else think girls shoudl start carrying condoms? It's them that ends up having the kids after all

heya ginja ninja, just reading there, i totaly agree with the law being in as it does stop serious cases being let go, but if its both consented to well there shouldnt be a major issue.

I personally think, after losing my virginity at a young age (because every one else was doing it, stupid me) it was the worst mistake of my life, if i was to go back and change it i would. keep it safe in a box and dont give it to some one unless you truely like them and you know their worth it and dont ever be peer pressured into it, stand your ground.

That's not true for everyone though. Just because you felt that way doesn't mean others do. I lost my virginity to someone I didn't care about and I don't regret it at all.

Question for the wimmin, if you met a guy and saw a condom in his wallet, would you think
    A. He's far too keen.
    B. Creepy.
    C. Eager.
    D. Responsible.
    E. Other (please specify).

I've read this and the two posts leading up to it many, many times and I still haven't got a clue.
What can't I get? Embryos? Condoms? Laid?

I don't think you'd be able to judge a guy in a negative light for doing that, it's definitely just responsible.
I've got friends that bring condoms with them every time they go out; perhaps it's a little bit over ambitious but tbh it's fair enough. You don't want to end up back in some chick's house and just have to spoon tbh.

Overly ambitious is right; I keep one in my wallet just in case but it's been in there a depressingly long time now. :(
For luckier guys who able to pull though, it's a responsible thing to do.

It's actually a really good way of getting pregnant, cos you can predict your fertile times and so know when the best time to get pregnant is. Though as a contraceptive it effective to an extent, but there's a huge margin of error.

It's taught to some people in Africa who can't afford condoms or have no access to condoms but who still insist on having sex anyway.

Are you saying that you shouldn't have sex unless you have access to condoms? Why shouldn't people have sex if they want to,with or without condoms. You make it sound as if they're doing something wrong.I really don't think that you or indeed anyone else in a wealthy western country have any right at all to tell people how they should live their lives, especially when it comes to something as personal as sex.

If 20% of the population have HIV, then I think telling someone not to have sex without condoms is a pretty sensible thing to do. Botswana could become one of the richest countries in Africa, but if HIV continues to spread, it'll be on it's knees in no time.

I don't see how she was saying that at all.
Why shouldn't people have sex if they want to,with or without condoms.

STIs? Unwanted pregnancy? Both? Take your pick.

I think you're reading Piste's post wrong, she says that natural contraception is thought to people in Africa who can't afford or have no access to an alternative contraception (ie condoms). Maybe all the people in Africa having sex don't wanna have children either.

Nothing about how people shouldn't have sex without access to condoms...

Most of the West's advice is good in Africa tbh, in a continent ravages by AIDS and high child mortality rates.

There's one thing I've heard about sex that I totally gree with:
If you're too immature to buy condoms, you shouldn't be having sex. Simple as.

You have the right to have sex without using protection, of course, but the girl (I'm presuming you're a straight guy) has the right not to get pregnant.
This isn't about societytelling you how to have sex, it's about society making sure you don't make any mistakes when having sex, like getting a girl pregnant, or contracting/spreading STIs.

And I'm pretty sure nobody here is telling you what to do. People are expressing their opinions. This thread is for disucssing sex. Naturally contraception is going to be a topic in any such conversation, especially one where teenagers are pretty much the only contributors. Discussiong contraception is a good thing. You're making it out to be a bad thing.

It was the word "insist" that really annoyed me.She made it sound like they are having sex without condoms just for the hell of it.A lot of it comes down to education though. If you don't realise the effects of not using a condom then you probably won't use one and if your living in abject poverty then you certainly won't.Having said that I believe that if you are aware of the consequences then of course you have the right to decide whether you wear a condom or not.Ultimatly you will be the one that has to live with the consequences of your actions.

No I didn't say that at all.

But if I were an African who couldn't afford to raise a child and knew the risks of HIV I would abstain from sex if I couldn't access condoms. It would be plainly irresponsible not to. I wouldn't bring a child into the world only for it to suffer, and I wouldn't want to contribute to the rapid spread of HIV. No sex in the world is worth that, imho. Obviously circumstances are different for those who genuinely are unaware of the risk of HIV, but it's still damn irresponsible to create a child you can't look after.

No, that's totally wrong. What about the person you give an STI to? They have to bear the consequences of your decision to have unprotected sex. What about the baby you have that you can't afford to raise? They have to bear the consequences too.
