I've been working on a few rewrites since - I hope to have all edits in place and a new chapter posted for your consideration by tomorrow afternoon.

    - Thanks for all the encouragement to date!

The KGB were an intelligence/security organisation. Would they really have issued their own boots rather than using (Red) army boots when required?
I've never heard of CIA/MI6/Mossad boots so why would the KGB be different?

A quick Google search says they did. Seems odd for sekrit spiez to wear a distinctive uniform but I think there was a less covert element to the organisation that dressed in military-style clothes.

I liked it! some great use of descriptive words for hair and appearances and such but seems very packed in.
The Duran Duran usage was semi ok,but it evokes images or sounds in the reader, for instance i thought of 'Hungry like the wolf' as the soundtrack to the beating.Flesh it out and you could have about four or five good chapters in their.
