Splitting the signal for NTL modem and additional TV (analogue) - Splitter or Tap?

    Hi guys,

    I want to feed both my NTL broadband modem and a TV from one NTL "point". I can use a 2-way splitter or a "Tap" but I'm not sure which is best to use. I've tried both and there seems to be no difference - I'm getting broadband and TV each time. In theory what's best practice - to use the tap (with the "Out" connected to the modem and the "Tap" connected to the TV) or the 2 way splitter. If the modem/broadband works fine in either scenario wouldn't I be right in assuming that the TV will get a stronger signal from the output of a 2 way splitter rather than the Tap output and maybe that's the way to go?

    If the split with the ports marked "tap"and"out" is one supplied from NTL then the standard setup was to connect the out to the modem and tap to the TV.
    Tap side will lose 6db, out side loses 1db. A standard 2 way split will lose 4db per output.

    Only thing you really need to watch is the TX level of the modem.
