    Hi all,

I have a 2004 Dell laptop I think its a latitude. Anyway, last year it broke down and I would like to keep and use the information on the old internal hdrive. I tried buying an adapter which copied the drives files etc to an external drive but I couldnt find one with the correct amount of pins. I tried inserting the drive into another few types of newer Dells but they dont fit! Ive checked in a few electronics shops and they cant really help. Has anyone had a similar issue or know how I can go about retrieving the info from it?

    Thanks a mil

I have a problem with my 2004 Inspiron hard drive at the moment & it seems it has an IDE interface, if your's is the same it probably explains why it wont fit any of the newer models (SATA). If you could verify that it is IDE you could try something like this IDE to USB converter

I'm no expert on these matters so it might be worthwhile waiting for another opinion!

google ide interface image,if its ide ,buy 2.5inch ide caddy in maplins/pcworld peats.PUT electrical tape on the pcb board on the underside of the drive, otherwise it will short circuit when it touchs the metal case.DO NOT touch the pcb.OR put tape on the caddy surface, interior,ie the space, underneath the hd,ie metal must not touch the hd printed circuit board.
    see here http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=339052
in shops its around 32euro.on dells theres usually a metal case held by 4screws,which slides into the
laptop enabling the hd interface,to,engage .click the ide pins to connect to the laptop motherboard.
