Pretty sure you'll have to pay the reg & tuition fee in total, which differs depending on the course. You should have dropped out earlier.

as far as i know you will only have to pay half the tuition fees, about 800 quid, on top of registration next year. Once you don't register for the second semester

If you drop out now,you will have to pay the reg fee and half your tuition fee for what ever course you decide to do. Tuition fees are less for a course in an I.T.(like d.i.t.) than they are for a course in a uni(like trinity) And courses like pharmacy, medicine etc will have higher tuition fees than courses like science, computing etc.
If you look up the college websites they should have some info on the whole thing, like price lists and so on.:)

About 3000 + 1500(normal reg fee). Not registering for the second semester might reduce this, i don't know

Dropping out before October is the only way to get a full refund.
If you drop out before the end of January you pay the full capitation (1500) and half the tuition. If you drop out after the 31st of January you pay full fees. Thats the fees for this year. You may then have to pay full/half fees next year in a new course also.

The full tuition fees for DIT full time programmes are:
    Certificate (Level 6) - €1368
    Ordinary Degree (Level 7) -€1454
    Honours Degree (Level 8) - €2319
    Architecture / Engineering Degree - €2950
