boiler flue extention

    i have a normal boiler. classic fanned flue. in my kitchen, i have built a sun room and want to know can i put an extention on the outside flue so it comes out of the roof, someone told me it has to be on an outside wall ( the boiler) so i have to move the whole thing.:eek: is this true, also can i have a bend on it to put it out the roof, or does it have to be straight. thanks

    It depends on the type of boiler and it may involve increasing the size of the hole. You cannot from my understanding turn a flue once its gone outside.

    I am assuming its a gas boiler.

    Contact the manufactures of the boiler they will tell you their guide lines. A gas boiler doesn't have to go on a outside wall, you are allowed to extend the flue to a length given by the manufactures including elbows but inside your property, as Joey posted you cannot extend a fan flued boiler flue outside of the property which is what you would do extending trough a sun room, you would have problems with condensation in the flue, Gary.

    guys would it cost a fortune to move it to the bedroom above the kitchen, then it would be above the sunroom :rolleyes:

    If you have the bioiler manual it will give details of flue configuirations incl uding roof terminals,if not try google
    Remember it's now a criminal offence to undertake any work on gas appliances unless qualified to do so.

    I have seen a lot of boilers moved. There is usually one to two days work in it. However i am generalising when i say boilers are like your granny.

    If she is 21 she can be moved anywhere

    If she is 51 she might get a little damaged

    If she is 71 she might never work again

    It is rec by manufactures that you change the flu everytime you move a boiler as there is a risk you will crack it.

    However if you get a nice careful plumber s/he might be reasonable and might be willing to try and save the flu.
