Wireless Router?

    I am going to get a wireless router for my laptop but I am not sure exactly what type I need and do I need anything to plug into my laptop.
    My broadband connection is with digiweb if that makes a difference.
    The laptop has a wireless switch on the front, it is a HP Pavillion DV6000.
    Do I have to choose a particular type of router or can I choose any type.
    Do I need a wireless usb adapter?
    I want good speed as we do a bit of downloading and are willing to spend a few euros to get a good one.

    Your laptop comes with a wireless adapter built in. It is 802.11 a/b/g so the below routers will serve you well. I think it is worthwhile to get a router which supports the new wireless "n" standard so that if you get a new laptop with n you will be able to get fast speeds on your lan.

    Is there any way I can get the n type speed without buying a new laptop, can I buy something to plug into the usb port to match the speed of an n type router. I would still like to be able to download music and movies wirelessly, I know I will loose some speed but I would like to make it as little as possible.
    My internet connection is via cable, think. It dosent come through a phone line anyway, I'm not too up on broadband technology so excuse my ignorance.

    Your broadband is very unlikely to saturate wireless G unless it is 30Mb/s or more. G is 54Mb/s which in actual use is often about 30-35Mb/s so unless you have 30Mb/s broadband G will be more than enough for downloading. If you have a home network setup i.e. want to transfer files between computers in the house then maybe consider a wireless g usb dongle for the laptop. If not, it would be a waste of money.
