I recently updated a Garmin nuvi265W using their webupdater about a week ago and very since it's not making voice prompts.

I plugged it in again today and there was another update so I downloaded that but it was still no good.

I'm not sure if the sound is gone or just voice prompts it's not making any noise at all, volume is up full and mute is unticked the only other option Garmin support gave me was to reset the unit but it's a business GPS and contains allot of important favourites.

I've had that once before, and I noticed that the voice language setting had somehow 'disappeared' after the upgrade. Go into Tools > Setup > Language and check that the Voice settings are OK, i.e. set to British English-Emily (TTS) or whatever you've chosen.

It's also possible that somethings changed in the various files to do with voice and text prompts with the new s/w version. When you run WebUpdater, after it's done it's main s/w upgrade, you're also given the option to check for further updates. Do this and see if there are any updates in there relevant to the language you use (probably British English), and download and install them as well.

I did go into language settings I checked it's set up properly. Voice is set to British English, there's even an option to reset to factory defaults in there and I did that but it had no effect.

After I did the upgrade I did go on to installing additional updates and installed any English voice they had but their not showing up under the list of voices.

Not sure about the voice thing, but could be due to a corrupted file after the update. As Garmin suggested, it would do no harm to do a hard reset. I know you're worried about your favourites, but I can help with that.

Make a backup of your favourites onto your PC.
Your favourites are stored on your sat nav in X:\Garmin\gpx\current.gpx
Copy the file current.gpx to somewhere safe!

Try the hard reset, and if your favourites are gone, just copy the file back.

    :)

Yeah, thanks that looks like my only option, all I have to do is find the cable it's up and disappeared moving between work and home.

Any mini usb cable should do, if you have one for a camera, mp3 player, external hard drive, etc?

Reset doesn't seem to be working, if I go to tools> settings> system and press restore there, it has no effect. If I follow the instructions for a hard reset, slide the power switch to the on/off position and hold for 8seconds nothing happens, although it doesn't say when I should be doing that.
I've tried with the unit off holding the power slider on as it boots up but it had no visible effect. Tried while it was on too but it just turns off straight away if I hold it for the 8 seconds it restarts but when I check my favourites assuming they'll be gone but their all still there.

I've tried connecting it up to my phone using the bluetooth to see if I could any sound out of it at all but it's not finding the phone.
