Do the LG TVs support MPEG-4?

    Hi,

I see a nice 26" LG TV in Curry's at the moment (26LH2000) and there's no mention anywhere in its manual if it supports MPEG-4 or not. The salesperson was pretty sure it did but I was just wondering if it was the case or not?

The Samsung LE26B450 does but is €50 more...

Does anyone know of a source to verify if the LG in question supports MPEG-4?

    Thanks in advance!

    That set will work fine.
All the LH models have mpeg4 tuners.

Yeah it does mpeg4. Its on the power city website for €370 and £300 on currys.co.uk.

How much is it a Curry's store in Ireland. I was looking at either buyin the 26lh2000 or the 22lh2000 or the 22lu4010. I think the LU is the newer model with 2 hdmi inputs.

I see that Power City are showing this TV online (26LH2000) but also have the 26LG3100 for €30 more with almost exact same spec.
Does anyone know the difference in these two? Can't find the LG3100 on the LG site.

LG3100 doesn't do MPEG4 (Irish DTT). its aimed at english market for freeview

Sorry my mistake. It does do MPEG4. I was only able to find the official specs on the German LG site:

You should. I tuned in a 19LH2000 for a friend today and it's picking up the RTE etc. DTT channels in MPEG4 no problem. Lovely little telly actually.

Absolutely sure it's an LH series? Are you getting anything at all? Maybe the transmitter serving you is off the air at the moment? If you are getting sound only, it's a sign of an MPEG2 only tuner.

Yes. Set country of origin on the LG as the UK, and its displaying MHEG5 digital text.

Could someone explain what this MPEG-4 is all about? About to buy either a LG or Samsung as a present and someone else on this forum mentioned that I should make sure I have it.

    19 LG3010 is MPEG-2 only
26 LG4000 is MPEG-2, as I tuned into and just getting sound and no picture
    32 LH4000 is MPEG-4
    32 LF7700 is MPEG-4 and also Freesat

Yes, check your aerial and all connections. Where are you? Are you far from Clermont Carn? How is your analogue reception? If thats ok, You should be getting the DTT tests. I'm in Dundalk and DTT from Clermont Carn can be quite easily received on an indoor aerial.

MPEG-4 is how an Irish digital television (DTT) picture is compressed for transmission and decompressed in your tv for viewing. See here for a more detailed explaination. The MPEG-4 video compression standard is used by many countries around Europe.

The UK use an older compression standard, MPEG-2, which will not display an Irish digital TV channel.

Some televisions are MPEG-2 only while others are MPEG-2 / MPEG-4.
