Well what is everyones opinion on this? Personally I think it's pathethically stupid that in this day and age we still put the percieved rights of the dead thing above the rights of the living human, we are actually willing to dump organs that could keep someone alive in the muck. I usually try to avoid givinbg an opinion when I start a thread. But Jesus fukking Christ, little childrens lives are at stake here. At the very very least it should be a fact that you should have to particuarly opt out oif organ donbastion yes???

I've an organ I'd like to donate to the ladies of Ireland, but herself would kill me.

    Do you have a link?

What mandatory organ donation are you talking about?

Your post suggests that somehow you got really drunk just before the last four words.

True story. But I still think the question is a valid one.

    agree.

i personally see no problem with an 'opt out' donor option in ireland, it works in some other countries well. you basically are assumed to be a potential donor of all of your bodily organs unless your next of kin disagree.

dont know about the face skin or eyes tho - it might be too much for my poor mammy but kidneys/heart/lungs( ex smoker so maybe not) etc no probs with me, pointless letting it rot in the ground.

    Why should I exactly???

Save someones life rather than bury your kidney in muck?

OP, You have five minutes to post a link to what you are talking about.

    Or I will lock it.

I'd like a setup where I could donate organs to under 18 year olds and adults who are doners get priority.

It's not an actuall option unfortunately, pure speculation.

    Had to be posted.

Sharpshooter, it's not in reference to a news story.

I was more looking to gauge the general opinion of the populace in regards to this issue.

Why does OP need a link?! The thread has already created debate within 10 posts.

I'd have more of an issue with the poll results being hidden.

Thread title is very misleading so.

I had nothing to do with the poll btw.:pac:

Poll isnt working i.e i cant see the results

Everyone should donate..you cant take it with you and all that. I actually think it should be compulsory.

I'm all for organ donation. You lost me at "the dead thing" comment, too sensationalist.

Sorry, definately wasn't meant to produce that reaction. I Appoligise.

The results are hidden for everyone but Administrators, Moderators and thread starter. (Poll starters greeting)

I'm not sure why that is.

    3
    1
    7
    1
    are the results at present.

Mandatory donation would not be fair to those who object on religious grounds, personally I plan on donating anything that could be of use - I won't need it. People should have the right to choose though. If it really bothers you - PM me your location and get in the deep freeze - I'll call an ambulance tomorrow.

I had a look and I think you should be able to see the results now.

Wasn't there an identical thread to this about a month ago? It mentioned the opt out thing in that poll too...

But as I said then I think opt out is the best approach. That way if someone felt strongly about keeping their organs after they die they would go out of their way to opt out. As opposed to now where many people probably don't even think to get a donor card.

Think he's looking for a discussion on whether or not it would be a good idea.

I think there was a thread about this a few months ago but I'm too tired to go looking...

I'd be all for compulsory donations, no-one has a valid reason to withhold their organs from someone who needs them after they die.

If someone does want to withhold them then they shouldn't be allowed to receive organs either (As for religious reasons, if God has a problem with you donating an organ for someone else then there's no way he wants someone else to donate one for you, unless you happen to think that your life alone is more important than God's will).
This way no-one would be forced to, but no-one can say "I won't save someone else's life but they better save mine".

Opt-out is a system that makes most sense and is most fair tbh. I can't believe it hasn't been brought in more widely tbh.

Then again, healthy organs make better worm food.

Right, it was a few months ago :P

But here's a similar thread if you're interested OP

This thread has nothing to do with God!

The OP is asking in general.

If you wish to talk about God we have this forum.

    Are you drunk Sharpshooter?

Religion is by far the most cited reason for not donating organs.. If we have a discussion about organ donation, the reasons for not donating are going to come up.

I understand why you say that. I Always make the poll results hidden in any poll I have started though, when weighing up the reasons someone might make a poll choice, I think this way is probably the best. I could easily be wrong, but right now I think I'm probably right.

Yup, I mentioned it because I knew that if I didn't I'd get some responding that some religions wouldn't allow it.
