Was at Sean Hughes gig in Dublin and this crazy bloke sitting near me in the audience started to heckle him. Did anyone see or hear of this? has it been reported anywhere?

Sean was giving out about Stephen Fry doing Twinings ads when this smarty pance guy, who I'm certain I saw in The George before with a friend of mine, started calling Sean a hypocrite about being on Corrie and that. He told Sean he was a sell out??? :) anyways, this fella, who has a Dub accent, went on and told Sean, in the middle of his gig, that he rips his jokes off other comedians. Sean told him to f@@k off and they kept shouting things back at each other. was a total ruiners actually - bloody Queen hecklers...

Sean Hughes - is that the pontificatin bistard up there with all his salaries who goads old ladies into paying €100 for a ticket to see a 3 hour advert for his musical which is starring Gerry Ryan - feck him, he deserves it.

Ah... Sean Hughes. He used to be funny alright.

Although, that said, his career highlight, Sean's Show (C4) was pretty much a British version of Garry Shandling's Show. So yes, the remark re ripping material from other comedians does hold some water.

You rarely hear of a heckler getting the better of a stand up.

    Was Sean Hughes playing recently?

I don't understand hecklers myself. I was at a comedy gig a few weeks ago and the first few acts went by without a fuss, then when it was time for the main act a load of people came in from the main bar, fairly drunk. They go and sit at the front and start talking to each other really loudly. The comedian made a joke about it, hinting that they should probably shut the f*ck up, and they started trying to heckle him (and he then tore strips out of them). I just don't get why you'd pay money to see someone and then shout at them. You're not big, you're not clever, you're just being a c*nt.

He was one of the funniest Irish comedians of the 90s and was pretty big. Sean's Show was excellent and he spent a long time on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Apparently he was good friend's with Bill Hicks too.

He seems to have become a bit miserable over the years.

Spike Milligan is Irish? I guess you could say Dave Allen, I was thinking about the first Irish in the 90's comedy boom

Now, how exactly was Sean's show anything like the Gary Shandling show? I watched them both at the time.

Sean Hughes was always miserable, it was the basis of his comedy!

There's a certain similarity between the theme songs. That's about it really.

The format was more or less the same - Set in the star's apartment/flat with everyone coming to him - all on a single set.

    The themes too:
    Sean's show: It's Seanie's Show, lalalala, It's Seanie's Show lalalala
Garry Shandling: It's Garry Shandling's Show, It's Garry Shandling's Show...

Not exactly alike, I agree, but the format was lifted from GS.

I watched Seans Show when I was younger. Never really took a shine to him. Maybe I was too young, or maybe I just don't like his style.

One thing I want to know is, has an audience ever stood up to a heckler? If there is a heckler near me at Bill Bailey on Sat, I am going to go all facekicker on him.

but listen right, whatever about Sean Hughes youd have to be some arse to pat to see a comedian and then heckle him.
Thinkning back he did look like a bit of an arse....jealous he wasn't on stage probably. I'd say last time he was on stage was for Footloose or something :)

I doubt anyone's going to heckle Bill Bailey's Guide to the Orchestra considering they'll hardly be heard in the O2

    Kevin Bacon heckled Sean Hughes?

Sean was a pretty good fiction writer back in the day too. Have seen him live and is one of the most original performers I've seen

    Ah I miss facekicker.

Slightly offtopic but still on heckler theme: I was in the international two weeks ago and a babyfaced comedian got up with a guitar.

Just before he played his "Orgasm" song, some lad shouted up "Virgin". Seems simple, but my word was it the most effective heckle I've ever seen. The audience burst into laughter and the lad just looked there open mouthed, no come back(which surprised me as I figured it'd be a pretty obvious slag for him).

He got on with the show and was good but still, totally stopped in his tracks.

Heckling a comedian isn't cool (should have said that earlier on).

I was the Ha'penny Bridge Inn one night and there was a girl in the corner who basically heckled or mocked just about every act, so of whom were clearly up performing for the first time and they were really put off their stride by her. Turns out she was one of the acts and was up towards the end. Needless to say she was booed off. That was the exception to the rule.
