    Slightly overboard?

Evans would start on any other premiership team imo, bar chelsea.

Brown is a solid no nonsense player, he hasnt had much game time though so Ill concede he is a worry.

    OShea/Evra are regulars.

    Dont think its that weak.
Question of opinions really Evra is the only player in that back 4 I consider good enough for a UTD teams starting 11

I can see a comfortable win for Chelsea here with Drogba stealing the show. 2-0 or 3-1. Vidic not starting is a horrendous blow for united. Really can see Chelsea domination in all areas of the park.

While Vida and Berbs are huge HUGE losses Ando and Fletch will not make this comfortable for Chelsea's midfield. Hoping for a bit of magic from Giggs or Rooney today...

Johnno has been first choice at RB since the start of last season really. Hes made the position his own on merit.

    Anyone got a sopcast link?

Theres a thread for that here

Basically 7 central midfielders starting. Should be a tight game and I fancy United having 2 natural wingers on the pitch. Rooney needs to stay put in the middle though.

Funny, I think Evra is the weakest defensively of the 4 but as you say question of opinions.

Yeah to be fair, as flahavaj said, O Shea is there on merit.

I was quite vocal in my dislike for O Shea and his ability, I still am at times, but he has stepped up a lot in fairness to him. He is definitely worth his position.

    But it is all opinions.

I'm delighted for him and its great for Ireland too but I think UTD need better. Is Vidic carrying an injury or just not picked?

    lol
If you look at a compilation of United goals conceded over the last 2 seasons, the majority will have come form the left back position, due to an absent Evra.

Absent as in he wasn't playing more like.

I think people see attacking full back and automatically assume they are crap defensively.

    Someone should stop watching youtube.

He's not a bad defender but he's always caught coming back from an attacking position. I encourage you to look at the goals United concede before assuming you're right about him.

He was first choice RB in a team that won the Prem and got to the CL final and more than played his part. Hes plenty good enough for United IMO.

Not sure on Vidic, I know his calf was playing up, but as others have said if hes fit enough for the bench he should be fit enough to start. And hes a player I'd always start if hes available and fit for selection.

you might have a point, last two liverpool games benitez clearly targetted evra as a weak link, gerrard attacked the left side at OT and torres did this year at anfield, on both occasions evra wasn't up to the task at hand

Genuinely curious, how many of these goals came due directly to Evra being absent? Even a rough estimate?

I ask because I did get the distinct impression Benitez directly targeted him as a weak point few weeks ago.

Edit: Be Gob Rossie did we just agree on something. First time for everything I suppose.;)

I don't know the exact stats but it's just something I picked up on towards the end of last season. It's just not that noticeable because you tend to blame the defenders that are nearest to the ball.

Torres' goal, for example, could have been prevented had Evra been present at left back.

Evra isn't a weak defender at all. But when a fb gets forward as much as he does then he's gonna be caught out of position at times.

However his attitude tracking back has been poor on occassions. He can be sloppy

Looking forward to this now, even though I still don't think we'll win but hopefully it's a good game :) 1-1 maybe

We just dont it , never have according to Martin Tyler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,734 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Tyler said its optional to each team and UTD have never done it and decided not to do it this year.

Nice to see Sir Alex and Ancelotti having a bit of banter, hopefully this thread can carry that on :D
