Replacment for EMG hz?

    Anmyone got any reccomendations for replacment pickups for the weak hz's in my LTD kh-202

    I like the sound of the bill lawrence pickups , (have one in my dean) , im looking for that sparkly yet punchy sound that sounds great with od/distortion.

    The LTD sounds much weaker compared to my dean and im looking for more beef out of it.

    How about actual EMG's and not those poopy HZ's?

    was thuinking that alright , would i need to do any routing in the body for a battery compartment or anything?

    Nope, there's usually enough room for a battery in the control cavity. You might want to double check that, but usually there is enough room for lots of stuff in there, like so:

    Ive an emg 81 active humbucker in my strat (HSS), packs a big punch! I love those pickups, great sound out of them,

    Wire them up for 18V and they sound much better!! :)

    Yeah but try fitting two 9v batteries in the cavity of an Aerodyne Jazz :(. I was barely able to get one in there. +1 on the regular EMGs though.

    Serves you right for buying an Aerodyne! :pac:

    Route it out for a battery box. :)

    You might as well go for the active EMGs. I really like the sound from them, and they'll be a definite improvement over the Hz set you have now.

    :mad: That bass was worth buying for the body alone. it's nearly lighter than my acoustic guitar :cool:. Long term plan is to do it properly with a battery box alright but I haven't the time at the moment.

    I'd recommend either a Bareknuckle Pickups Nailbomb or a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker... Passive is always better than active in my books...

    Have you used thye dimebucker?
    How would it compare to the bil larence xl500?

    what would be a good pickup to go in the neck position?

    I've got a Dimebucker (Bridge) and a '59 (Neck) in my PRS Tremonti SE and it's a great combination! Really nice pickups! Alternatively I would recommend PRS Dragon II Pickups, excellent pickups!

    The Dimebucker is a great pickup though, really tight squealing tones! Goes very well with the '59!

    Cool,, thinkin i might go with that combination , what i dont understand is the " " 4-conductor cable " i see on the pickup specs , how do i find out what my cheap emg's are and what pickup to get , some of them say 2-conductor cable. ???

    Yeah I know what you mean, they describe the wiring in the instructions that come with the Dimebucker though, easy enough to get around it, don't ask me to remember as I installed it nearly five years ago but it's not difficult

    what would beat the emgs would be duncan blackouts, ive them in 2 sevenstring schecters and in a 6 string ibanez xiphos and the slay emgs by miles. and ya dont have to do a 18 volt mod to get the best of them like it emgs .
