    What was the source?

Was it a journo or directly from a club source?

    Peter Hooton
I like Rafa even though he can be frustrating. What I like about him is that he is totally obsessed with football. He fell out with Xabi because he chose to be at the birth of his child rather than play for Liverpool at the San Siro. The Valencia team that he brought to Anfield six or seven years ago played some superb stuff some of the best one touch football I have seen at Anfield. Last season our run-in was absolutely fantastic and if Parry had listened to Benitez and acted on his instructions we would have had Barry, Alves, Malouda and Rodwell in the squad. I know this as FACT!

We had a 4hour meeting with Rafa last year and he told us everything. It was like a theatrical performance. He told us all this selling Alonso for Barry was nonsense and that he wanted Alonso and Barry but Parry rushed through a deal for Keane because he was on Rafa's list therefore spending the whole transfer budget it was only then he considered selling Alonso but not for a cut down price that Parry had agreed with Juve 12mill I think he said. He said Keane was on his list but like Babel was right down his list of priorities whereas Barry was top of the list but Parry didn't fancy him and obviously told the Yanks not to buy him but Keane instead. With Barry in the squad last year I think we could have won the league.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been warned as to his future conduct following a gesture made at referee Phil Dowd.
The Spaniard has been cleared of two of three Football Association charges brought against him following incidents in Liverpool's defeat by Tottenham on 16th August.
But Benitezspacer.gif was found guilty of misconduct relating to the third - a gesture made with a pair of spectacles which was deemed to be offensive.
A statement on the club's website read: "The Commission found that two of the allegations relating to comments made about the match referee were not proven and therefore dismissed.
"On a third, the commission accepted that a gesture made with a pair of spectacles was 'in a non-malicious and humorous manner' and taking into account Mr Benitez's previous unblemished record, warned him about his future conduct. No fine was imposed or costs awarded against the Liverpool manager.
"The commission also expressed their surprise at the failure of the FA to charge another manager who had made a similar gesture the same weekend."

Maybe my views are idealistic naive even as you put it,but somebody has to put up some forum of a fight draw a line in the sand. Its not just on this forum were you get this defeatist attitude,at the last 2 home PL games we have had protests (I nearly got arrested for handing out SOS leaflet's in the ground) and the amount of people that just walked past us that did not give a fcuk. Some people just don't care enough to do anything about it,here is a YouTube clip to back up my point you will see hundreds of people just walking past us.

Unfortunately Dub,this seems to be just the way it is.I doubt if even a large % of our supporters have any inkling of what's going on off the pitch.

We were having a lively discussion about g&h a few weeks ago and I attempted prehaps in my naievity to rally a group from here to head over and show our support for the guys protesting.
I didn't get one single response, and after all the strong feelings expressed previous to that,it left me in little doubt as to the lethargy and the 'i'll moan from my armchair attitude'.

i find it difficult to imagine a circumstance or act directly linked to gillette & hicks that would deliver the kind of sustained blow it would take to damage the clubs lineage, ethos, respect within the game. i dont think they're capable, and if they are then i question weather that spirit amongst our fans was really so strong to begin with. the ethos of the club has been formed over the course of the past 115+ years, its cant be destroyed over the course of a few (perhaps alot of) stupid comments and a ill conceived conversation with jurgen klinnsmann.

the ethos of the club is linked directly to the local community within liverpool, part of the clubs responsibilities in order to push forward with the new stadium is to improve facilities in and around Stanley park, its the clubs responsibility to form good links with local schools and family's in order to get talented local kids through the academy. i dont see how these guys are capable of affecting the ethos of the club when its as important to the development of the club both on and off the pitch.

there are plenty of flaws between the pair of the owners and the job of s.o.s etc should be to call them on their lies and do it in the correct forum. anybody and everybody thats interested in the club can find the right information and the facts about the club, its those people that form the ethos of the club.

there have been times where protests at the ground before and during games have been called for, ie when rafa needed support. but protests any and everytime someone gets wind of the fact that one of them is in the city just wears on people.

i find that the militant fanboy hate coming from some supporters over every single thing regarding the owners is as much of a detriment to peoples interest in the club as anything else and probably turns more people reading this forum away from contributing than anything else.

one of the comments underneath it, obviously to be taken with mountains of salt, but its always nice to hear the rumours which are afoot once its taken on board that thats all they are - rumours.
Post from ShowmetheMoney on the This is Anfield Forum

Well I have been told today at work that as far as Tom Hicks is concerned – the due diligence has been completed & was completed sometime ago. I’m also told Tom Hick’s is fully expecting this deal between George Gillett & Prince Faisal to go ahead. What I still couldn’t prize out of her was whether Hicks himself is going to release any shares. She tells me most things I ask her, but she wouldn’t budge on that issue, but I’m told Hicks himself has been in regular contact with Prince Faisal & F6 director Barry Didato.

I asked my source why she thought Prince Faisal was now interested in Liverpool FC & she said “Faisal loves the way things have worked out for Sheikh Mansour at Manchester City. Plus it helps that oil prices have doubled since the beginning of the year; but most importantly Hick’s & Gillett’s own position has become ‘clear’.”

She said that when Prince Faisal & George Gillett signed the memorandum of understanding at the end of September, it set in motion an exclusive commercial collaboration between F6, the Richard Petty motorsports team & Liverpool FC. But for it all to go ahead, Prince Faisal insisted Gillett relinquish all his shares in Liverpool football club. In return, Gillett will ‘potentially’ see a NASCAR circuit built in Saudi Arabia along with some Richard Petty racing schools elsewhere in the Middle East. The Liverpool academies that will spring up everywhere in the Middle East & North Africa are obviously related, though that is not a prerequisite for the deal.

She also said that on the deal being completed, Prince Faisal is expected to announce all sorts of **** that I’m not going to print in case it fails to happen & I end up looking like a tit; but what I heard was awesome & if it’s really true & this is really happening – this in my opinion is seriously good news for us & our club.

New article from Tomkins, it's a long one!

good lord that is some amount of tosh

im not a rafa hater, i dont particularly like him, but ye cant knock his record as a manager. ive defended him before on here when people knock him, so i have no bias against him

but that piece, its basically some lad saying rafa can do no wrong at all, that everything ever said against him is wrong

Do you know what a devils advocate is?
I'm no massive fan of Tomkins, and his stuff is pretty Rafa loving, but that's what it's supposed to be.

He's taking all he bad things, seeing as that is all the media and most fans of other clubs take, and offering a counter argument for them.

It's supposed to be a one sided piece not a pulitzer winner.

So Hungary went out of the U20 WC 3-2 earlier on.

Gulacsi and Simon played the full match but Nemeth went off injured at half-time.
    Quansah fires Ghana to final

A thunderbolt from Abeiku Quansah was the difference as Ghana survived a late comeback from Hungfary to book their place in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009. Leading 2-0 with just under 20 minutes to go thanks to a first half brace from Dominic Adiyiah, Quansah's 81st minute effort was sandwiched in between strikes from substitutes Marko Futacs and Adam Balajti.

Yet, this was a game that Ghana deserved to win. They served notice of their intent as early as the ninth minute when Mohammed Rabiu sent a right footed shot over the bar and a minute later they were ahead. Adam Presinger's sloppy back pass was seized upon by Andre Ayew, who took it past the keeper, slipped it towards the net and Adiyiah bundled it over the line before Presinger had chance to clear.

The Africans were in complete control in the opening 45 minutes, but had a tendency to surrender possession too easily, which created a few nerves, especially given the calibre of striker that Hungary have in their ranks. Ayew and Osei had shots which were fairly comfortable for Peter Gulasci, but the keeper could do nothing about the Satellites second, which came shortly after the half hour mark.

Samuel Inkoom's cross from the right was met with a confident downward header by Gulacsi who celebrated his eighth of the tournament in style. The only shot on goal worthy of note from the Europeans during the first half came when Mate Kiss's free-kick was comfortably claimed by Daniel Agyei.

Just before the break, Osei saw another shot well saved by Gulacsi and Adiyiah went close again with a shot on the turn which went narrowly wide.

Hungary made two changes at the break, which saw Presinger and the injured Nemeth replaced by Balajti and Roland Varga respectively. The changes also saw Andras Gosztonyi move into a more advanced role and he almost pulled one back for Hungary in the 48th minute when he dragged a shot just across the face of goal.

Balajti went close in the 52nd minute when he connected with Gosztonyi's free-kick at the far post, but his right footed effort cannoned off the outside of the post and away to safety. Varga's dangerous cross narrowly evaded three Hungarian players and with time ticking away in the 71st minute, it was time for the final throw of the dice, with Marko Futacs coming on for captain Zsolt Korcsmar.

It took two minutes to pay off. Andras Simon slipped the ball to the big striker inside the box and he made no mistake. Predictably, it set up a grandstand finish. Gosztonyi delivered fine balls for Varga and Janos Szabo, but they both wasted their chances, failing even to trouble the keeper.

With Hungary committing men forward, Ghana took advantage. Adiyiah slipped the ball to Opuko Agyemang, who found Quansah on the right side of the box and he crashed a shot off the underside of the crossbar to restore Ghana's two goal advantage with nine minutes to go.

The Black Satellites should have been cruising by this point, but a defensive lapse from David Addy allowed Hungary back into the game. The striker's first touch should have been dealt with by the left back, but his slip allowed Balajti to take advantage; as all he had to do was pass the ball past Agyei and into the net.

Yet, despite the deficit being reduced once again, it was Ghana who came closest to scoring in added time when Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu rattled the crossbar with a ferocious right footed shot. Two minutes later it was all over and the Black Satellites were celebrating their progression to their third appearance in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Spains match on Wednesday is apparantly being shown live on LFC TV, first club channel to broadcast a live full international it seems.

Well if you gave me two apples and I sold them and bought you Torres (tripled in value), Mascherano (doubled in value), Agger (doubled in value), Reina (tripled in value), Alonso (sold for more than 3 times what he was bought for), Insua (more than tripled in value), Crouch (sold at a profit), Sissoko (sold a a profit), Bellamy (sold at a profit) etc, I'd hazzard a quick guess that you'd be pretty damn happy.

Where did these valuations comne form they all look on the optimistc side to me ? Even if they were right it's still only one in five making a profit, I'd be keeping my apples than you.

Fooking hell, talking about apples a new low for this thread.

    Any word on Kuyt?

Hopefully Torres won't be risked and fingers crossed for Gerrard for the weekend although I'm thinking he won't be risked.

Yes he can but i hope he doesn't

Are they likely to go with an "experimental" team?

Don't know why Spain would keep him around and do the scan and all if they didn't plan on using him. If they weren't going to use him surely they would have sent him back to Liverpool

Del Bosque claims he will not risk Torres if he is injured so who knows what will happen. Xavi(with the same injury as Torres) and Fabregas(family matters) have left the squad already.
    Gerrard is definately out tonight.

I don't have much optimism about Torres being rested tonight.

Wouldnt be a bit surprised to see him in action for some stage of the game.:(

Of course we need him, he’s one of the best in his position in the world, only a f*cking idiot wouldn’t see that.
You, of course, probably only remember his error from the Chelsea game (which our out of form defense should have atoned for) and forget his fantastic performance throughout the rest of the match.

Do you forget the 2007 CL final where he completely nullified Kaka’s threat?
Or his countless other gigantic performances in big matches for us.
Don’t be ridiculous. Of course we need him.

    Worse and worse they get

it's frightening what cr*p people will speculate about.

Its a f*cking link to debate on, calm down.
I didnt write it so why get personal, i put it up for discussion but seems you're not capable of doing that without calling someone a f*cking idiot if they dont agree with you.

the is about the worst website of all time.

    i'm actually not even messing.

last weeks was something along the lines of how gillette & hicks saved Liverpool.

lad who runs it is massively anti-Rafa & massively anti-SoS & is pro-american owners.

the union wanted to meet him after he wrote numerous articles which were slanderous toward them-they felt he didnt understand their goals & wanted to have a meeting & get their point across. he said he'd wouldn't meet them in Liverpool as it was their home turf, and he wanted to meet somewhere neutral (refusing to meet in Liverpool claiming it was their home patch, emmmm his site is about Liverpool!?), anyway when they agreed to this, he backed out.

he has also given interviews to the republic of mancunia website slating Liverpool & Rafa, the lad is a few sandwichs short of a picnic i think.

You didn’t discuss it; you didn’t give your opinion. You just posted a link.

I, on the other hand, gave reasons why we should keep him, referencing past performances.

Plenty of people replied and agreed with him, are they all a few sandwiches short too??

In fairness to Fink, he just asked a question, he didnt express an opinion. But there were some reasonable arguments in the link as to why we might sell him. I don't see it as "ridiculous" and certainly calling some an effin idiot is way over the top. It would be a perfectly valid position to take that we could get somebody as good as him for less money and therefore have additional money to spend on someone else.

Not a position I would agree with though. Mascherano is one of my favourite players, and I'd hate to see him leave.
