Um no? I said that the first car to get to the space should get it. What are you on about?

my disabled cousin gets me to do it when I'm with him and my ma does this all the time when she's picking up my granny so that the old dear doesn't have to haul herself to far on the zimmer..I understand why people get pissed off,I've had a bumper pressing my leg twice! But eh,get ur own spot.
There are many reasons why a person could be reserving a spot but it's certainly not for you.idiots.

Your cousin should apply for a Disabled Person's Parking Card and carry it with him so that whoever is driving him can use a disabled space. That will give him far more room to get in and out of the car. Your grandmother might also be eligible. That way there's no need to reserve a space, as there's usually a convenient disabled space nearby.

Yes but my car got to the space first. What you're suggesting is dangerous and stupid.

That's just idiotic, it's quite clear if a car has it's indicator on and is reversing towards a space that space is taken.

It's you that didn't get to the space in time, she is in the process of putting a car in the space

I only consider a space taken if a car is in it or your maneuvering into it when I'm in a position to maneuver into it. Having your missus stand there doesn't means it's yours if you're halfway up the road.

There are 3 or 4 spots(besides d 2 disabled) in town where I live where he can get out of the car in a half dignified fashion,if I'm in town doing whatever when I see one come free I call him and stand in it for him,he drives himself, just ends up scraping cars accidently if he doesn't have a certain type of space.Dunno what's d big deal.If I ran into it just ahead of u maybe but im clearly here reserving it for a reason so fup off

Also, i think its lousy of the guy to get a woman to jump out and stand there holding a spot for him. I dont think Id expect a woman to do this for me.

    Maybe she can't drive.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 5,028 Mod ✭✭✭✭G_R

OP, next time it happens just drive at ur one in the spot, if she doesn't have the sense to move when a car is coming towards then she deserves to be run over tbh.

Maybe start beeping the horn and shouting in a knackarish/skangarish* way also for good measure

Can't believe that everyone is in agreement with the OP. I'd be totally on the woman's side. She got there first and held the spot for her partner who was coming up the road. If I was in a bar and held a stool for my friend and some Ludraman tried to take it from me I'd belt him. Although it's never happened. The person asks "is that seat taken?" I say "yes it is" and he looks elsewhere. I'd say you're totally in the wrong OP.

By your reasoning then, are you saying that if you and your wife are in McDonald's and she is sitting at a table while you get the food, I am perfectly entitled to tell her to shift her arse and fcuk off if I get my food before you?

I think the op and most of the others would behave differently if it was a man standing in the spot.

You are entitled to do that afaik, and I think it's only fair if you have your food and some gobdaw is sitting there at an empty table.

Baaaa: Why are you trying to make this about gender? I don't care who is standing in the space, they shouldn't be there.

That's nice,I on the other hand, consider a space taken when I have my assistant stand in it-indicating that it's being used. Then I start maneuvering in,I do this from a distance of about 1 mile away as I'm a poor parker.

yeah sure, that's why it never happens to any of the 3 males in my family that do it

I actually think most people would be more aggressive if it was a guy, ya see, we are sexist in your favour, and this is the thanks we get!!

I'm going to cry into my pillow.

Rubbish. It's first come first served and that woman was there first signifying herself and her partner's intention of parking there. If you think Phasers, that you are entitled to just take someone's table because one of them is at the bar getting a drink I fear you're going to end up in a few pub brawls, female or not.

So how long can you reserve a space for? Can I pay people to work in 12 hour shifts to reserve a highly sought after spot in town next Friday morning at 8.30am?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭Dankoozy

Parking space != seat at Mickey Dea's

if this woman is allowed to reserve a parking space by standing in it does that mean i get to reserve a seat at some overpriced pub in Dublin by parking a car on it?

or driving into the pub and putting the seat in my car. or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭veryangryman

Reading this with interest...my opinions follow.

Standing in a parking spot doesnt entitle you or your car to it. Parking in it does.

Parking spaces are for parking cars.

    Barstools are for parking arses.

Restaurant tables are for parking people as well as food

Now, with all this in mind, i still would not challenge the crazy (and people who do this ARE crazy) woman. The reason for this? I dont like leaving my car unattended near crazy folk. What other mad sh1t might they do?

I don't mean to make it about gender, but it's discussed in my family regularily coz we do it regularily and we always arrive at the same conclusion-it's only guys that try and reclaim the spot and specifically only when it's females occuping it.So I think it's relevant.
This is the reality despite what all the tough guys here say, believe me,if the op had seen a man standing in the spot we wouldn't be having this conversation.
