Very disappointed with this no new ideas they stole the idea of finding someone though a video game from the movie The Last Starfighter
And the music is BSGish the show seems like the ship there on LOST.
Will watch to see if it gets better it can not get worse
Sky also cut a scene that was in the US airing

    I liked it.

It was grittier, grittier is good.

A distinct lack of Tealc but otherwise a solid opening.

    7 Thumbs up.

if its the scene im thinking of, then good for them. it felt out of place altogether both in the episode and in the franchise. I can get mah porn on elsewhere.

I really enjoyed the opening shows. Very good indeed and the gf (who not a massive fan of sci-fi apart from BSG) hought it was good.

    Spoilers:
So the ship seems to be on a predetermined course and will stop when something is needed. A new planet every week ala the best Star Trek. That is going to give the show an awful lot to play with.

What I find even more intruiging than exploring the macrocosm (the universe) is the microcosm of the Destiny herself. They have only seen a fraction of the ship and there could be parts that may stay closed for many seasons. There could be absolutely anything on board the ship! Some of the best parts of Lost were when there was when they were trying to find what was down the hatch and various other stations.

You can see alot of good sci-fi mixed together here (Stargate with a little Star Trek, BSG, Lost), and I like the shows grittiness.

I watched part 1&2 last night. I have to say, very disappointing. I was looking forward to something inventive and fresh, rather than just a SG continuation, like all the SG and ST continuations. Got none of that however. If you compare it to BSG miniseries, and BSG episode 3(1) "33 minutes" it’s just in a lower division. I will watch a couple of more episodes, to see how it develops, but I have my doubts. Especially since the 3rd episode looks to be set on a desert like planet, which is a very lazy sci-fi tool.

i don't like this 12 hour countdown idea.

I had read about it a while back and didn't like the idea of it then, still don't like it.

I can just see far too many eps ending with them just getting back in time.

Since they're going for a darker series this time maybe the teams who go out wont always get back...

It'll definitely be an Ensign Ricky scenario for most missions.

If they work out the route of the ship there's a possibility to catch up using the stargates if someone misses the window.

how is it like any show, it may seem simialr to other shows but what isnt nowadays, as long as they make it work in the story nobody will care if its like slider, star trek voyager, BSG, its noting like any of them,

maybe similar to sliders in the fact theres a time limit on them, but there not jumping to alternative realities, and they wont have to always leave the ship,

its like voyager cause there far from home, but they are moving further from home and have no control over the ship, and have no holodecks:D

its like BSG, wait it notin like BSG, there not the last of there civilisation and they dont have 50 ships with them,

theres simlarities but no solid duplication to be seen, this show could easily follow in SG-1 footsteps and have them explore a new world each week,

weve seen the pilot, and to be honest it hasnt really given any indication as to what the season holds, for now it just looks like survival, theres no bad guys chasing them,

    Yet.

Though I'm not sure there will be, I get the impression they want to break the mould a bit with this one.

Don't get the comparisons with BSG to be honest - Voyager, yes, Last Starfighter, yes, Star Trek TNG, yes... Not that these are bad things.

Kinda glad about the Senator. Never liked that actor.

I think the Battlestar comparisons are just for the overall darker theme that its set in.

How can you not like Shooter McGavin? :P
Shooter - "I eat pieces of **** like you for breakfast."
Happy - "You eat pieces of **** for breakfast?"
    Shooter - ".......No!"

LOL! Me too. There was always something I never liked about him. But I don't know what it is. Maybe he looks too much like a cousin of mine who is a complete p***k. :pac:

I think the BSG overtones are quite obvious.

A few months after the most critically acclaimed Sci-Fi show of all time finishes we get Stargate changing from its cutesey-wootsey image (espeically with regards Atlantis) and we now get a darker undertone, more blood, a slightly stricter looking military authority and even grainier looking footage.

Someone said Battlegate: Voyager a while back and I think it is acurate so far.

Theres gotta be enemies at some stage.

I agree, I thought there was an extremely strong BSG-like mood and feel. e.g fly-on-the-wall (or ceiling) camera shots, shakey hand held camera. The zoomy in & out camera pulls used for the Goa'uld attack is virtually identical to the battle scenes in BSG. The crew flashbacks are presented in a similar fashion to the Gaius Baltar's imagination scenes in BSG (I found the line between then/now a bit vague in SG-U).

The story (Lost in space/Voyager??) is presented in a similar way to BSG, it's darker and deeper, building on different characters with diverse but inter-related sub-plots. Very much un-like SG-1 or SG-A which involved characters visiting a planet, facing adversity or injustice and saving the day (Go USA!!!) all in one episode.

Anyone else made an association between SG-U's Dr. Nicholas Rush and BSG's Gaius Baltar? Both highly intelligent and important scientists, English, possibly with a dark side (American's seem to love portraying mad or evil scientists as English) and both tried to claim leadership (we don't actually know if Rush was given command when he used the communication stones, just that he says he was).

I'm still gonna be hooked on it though :D.

I see the comparisons in style, maybe. A little. But overall, I didn't think so. I'll watch it again though and look out for it. If anything I thought that it was a bit nastier/grittier feeling than BSG. Someone mentioned Baltar==Rush, not a bad comparison actually.

Out of curiousity though, where did the "the most critically acclaimed Sci-Fi show of all time" come from? Imagine this question in a genuinely questioning way, and not the usual, "what the **** are you talking about, you're full of ****" kinda way.

One thing about this. I always thought the BSG use of the zoomy in and out camera was very much like Firefly. Not denying its a nice little tool, but if we're attributing this to BSG, then we should attribute both to Firefly. I'm sure there was a use of it before Firefly that I don't know of, but that's where I remembered it from.

SGU,BSG or Voyager - too many similarities. The story is too dark, grainy looking footage and far too much blood :(
