Backup to NAS in Server 2008

    Hi,

    Despite the nickname, I can be a bit clueless in some areas of IT.

    My current issue is this: My organisation recently got a server running Windows Server 2008, and a NAS drive to back it up to. In the Windows Backup program you can only do this as a once off (not a scheduled backup). I need it to run on a scheduled basis, so how do I go about this?

    I've tried writing a basic script and using task scheduler, but this only works up to a point i.e. it keeps over-writing the previous backup.

    Does anyone know how to create a new folder each time (with the date or similar as its name) and then get the backup to use that folder?

    Failing that, can anyone recommend a free / really cheap piece of software that does this?

    Have a look at RichCopy, I wrote a few script for our Offsite backups to the DC.

    You can do full backups, incremental or custom.

    The incremental are running everyday and sync the folders but the Full {weekend} backups sync to a custom sub-folder named the date of the backup. E.G. {Z:\Backup\31-12-09-DUB-Offsite\}.
