From youtube, facebook and now boards being banned at work I wanted to know if these free proxies are safe? Any thoughts? Can they steal passwords?

If you're using one (that you haven't set up yourself), don't ever enter any personal details or passwords on a website. It's not worth trusting them.

if you forward port 443 on your router to home pc with some vpn server or even rdc, you could then use rdc/vpn software from work.
you mightn't want your boss to find out though ;)

Also setup a dynamic host on your pc, not only if your connection resets and you are leased a new ip, but you can try make some non-suspicious looking hostname hehe (http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/)

I used to run Apache/PHP with Phproxy and CGIProxy, oh and Ajax for shell acces in browser.. all on linux, most likely even easier to setup on Windows.
