Locked out of Microsoft xp

    Hi

    I restarted my computer today and the usual login window opened. Usually I enter my password and up she loads. For some reason the user name displayed 'the user'. This is not my username and I now cannot remember it.

    Can anyone offer assistance?

    have you tried 'administrator' as username?
    if that doesn't work, you could use ntpasswd program (google it), back up your data and reinstall.(assuming someone was playing with it, you never know what's on it now)
