    Photo recovery.

Funnily enough I've just been doing a bit of this myself. Mainly on the photos my granddad used to fold up and carry around in his wallet. I have to say there's nothing better than seeing the expression on my parents faces when I return these photos to them looking better than when they where new.

This was a throw-away shot before mono conversion and boosting the contrast. Hasn't benefited from Flickr upload - lost sharpness. I like the mood now!

I know I'm a noob but I'm finding this random photo thread/photo of the week thing a bit confusing. I never know when the week starts and ends or when the photo of the week thread starts.
I used to contribute on another photography board where they had a monthly competition. The posters would vote at the end of the month for their favourite and the votes were fairly easy to add up.
    Just a thought.

Anyway, I'm off to look for a pic to add. ;)

Well, the random thread isn't particularly for photo of the week, although photo of the week is selected off it with a measure of a photo's popularity on the forum.

It runs Monday through Sunday every week. The next one will be for the period 7th - 13th of September.

People add their photos, then forget about them. People thank a post with an image that they like and in doing so are voting. You thank what you like = you are voting for it. Like a good irish election - vote early and often. Thank as many post on the random thread that you like. The results of all the thanks are totalled over the week in question - that with most votes (thanks) wins.

Then one lucky individual gets a thread in their adulation and a couple of pm's.

I guess its the best of the random photos submitted during a particular week.

It's always a little behind to give each photo during the week to get the same chance (ie. those submitted on sunday have ample time to pick up 'thanks' on thread before being considered).

We also have the designated fortnightly assignments which is similar to what you reference above. These are quite informal and you may enter more than once if you like. We used to have a formal challenge where you had a challenge stated, a submission period, a voting period- oh yeah, and then a winner. Haven't had one in a while though - the assignments have taken over from it.

drop me a pm if you want to query anything else on it.

    cheers.

Yay, you've just entered photo of the week (well, kinda). You didn't actually enter but it will be considered in about 2 weeks time for that weeks one.

There you go, one vote already. Nice pic.
