They obviously haven't even blocked TPB's own trackers. Retards

    What a pointless exercise.

I just clicked 'Hide your IP now'. Your move Eircom.

Oh man, why did I think they would do it right :D
Ah well, sticking to my guns and switching ISP. It's the only way they'll learn that the can't get away with censorship even if it's poorly implemented. Hopefully enough people will leave them that they feel the kick in the balls they're due.

To be fair they don't care about blocking it.

Eircom only did this to avoid legal costs or any hassle from the rights industry.

So its more whats the easiest, way to do it?

It probably didn't come up in a meeting but it benefits them to make it easy to get around so the people that want to use the site on their service don't go to another provider.

    Its all a show IMO.

As I said hopefully enough will leave to show them that the cost of doing the easy thing is as high as doing the right thing and might put other ISPs off following their (imo dangerous) lead.

I dont think it's likely which is a shame.

Im moving apartments tomorrow, I was gonna just transfer my account but I said no. These ejits think they can dish out their own censorship.

Fair play to UPC for not complying with the order.

What a bunch of retards , it took me a 2 minutes to get around it,which is a long time :o because i was trying to remember the address of the proxy server i used a couple of months ago.

Congrats Eircom you now brought internet censorship to Ireland.Whooo

First the piratebay , wonder what's next

Yeah but didn't UPC limit torrent speeds? That's the rumour going around. It's standard practice for ISPs to do some traffic shaping but many UPC users have claimed that their torrents have been limited to 30 kb/s which is useless.

An online proxy can easily access thepiratebay at the moment on eircom!

Why bother changing ISP? Eircom did as little as legally possible to comply with the High Court injuction, which in my opinion makes them pretty cool.

I've had 3 ISPs in the last 3 years and Eircom are easily the fastest on torrents.

I don't really use piratebay for torrents so I'm ok :P But that is pretty frustrating for others. I'm sick of eircom. First they give terrible DNS servers for the whole of august and first of septermber they ban piratebay.

    I mean cmon, they're havin a laugh.

Yeah it is ridiculous... but sure i've been downloading all day at my max speed, approx 300kbps is all i've ever gotten on a 3 meg line. The piratebay tracker is timing out in uTorrent so looks like they've managed to block the trackers aswel. It's not making any difference to me so far anyway...

I had 4 dls and have only had to find an alternative source for one...speed seems down though...

ha nice work by eircom!! i think eircom knew anyone who really wanted to use the pirate bay would be able to find away around their block when a proxy website. this way they avoid going to court while the pirate bay is still fully accessible :D

    Bye bye eircom!
They say there that they will apply to unblock it if it becomes legal. Um, it's already legal and has never had any illegal content.
The music store thing is interesting, IRMA must have offered it as a financial incentive to eircom. That and the threat of suing them to bankruptsy.

so when are they implementing their overall 3 strikes ban

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 458 ✭✭hacx

It seems that the tracker is down from here, and I'm not even on eircom.

i am delighted that they are finally taking a stand against copyright infringement

    They're not.

According to eircoms blocking message that you receive when trying to access thepiratebay directly
    • eircom will not monitor customer’s activities at any stage, nor will it place any monitoring equipment or software on its network in order to facilitate this block.
    • eircom will not provide personal details or any information relating to customers to any third party, including the record companies.

If eircom doesn't monitor customers activities how can they implement the three strike rule?

The record company connects to the trackers and collects your IP address. They send it on to Eircom explaining you were downloading their copyright material. Eircom give you a strike. That was always the plan.

Apologies! I was misinformed, however Eircom can't disconnect someone just because your IP address was used to download files? Can they? Everyone knows how easy it is to hack eircom wireless routers, especially pre-2008 ones.

    Easy solution though, use bitblinder

Of course they can. They are under no obligation to offer you their service. I'm not sure they have plans to implement it but that was the route mentioned. I agree on how easy they are to hack but legally it's the owner's responsibility to secure their modem (whether that's right or wrong).

I know it's your responsibility to secure it, but no router is completely secure and i'm sure if you made some attempt to secure it, it would stand up in court. If I claimed that my PC was the only thing I had connected to my router, and my laptop the only thing I have ever used for torrents mysteriously disappeared, they would have a hard time proving that I ever downloaded a torrent.

And as i said if you use bitblinder it masks your IP address on torrents, so... Just do that!

if you just stop using torrents and start using rapidshare you can avoid all the IRMA crap. It's simple join warez-bb or just type in the album name into google and add rapidshare after it.It's simple and harder to get caught

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31 jaydoubleyoubee

Don't you have to pay for premium rapidshare for decent speeds and to be able to download more than a certain number of files a day, yes thats right you do!

Rapidshare is only good if you have premium.

Plus I don't beleive I should have to stop using torrents because the irish music industry got a bee in it's bonnet. What are they going to do, cut my internet off? oh no, i'll just change provider... It's not like the piracy police are going to come knocking at my door. And as i said before it's easy not to get caught on torrents too! BitBlinder! If torrents are used properly they are much much faster than rapidshare...

premium rapidshare is the way forward.6 euro for a month and a massive daily limit. It's completely worth it.

Rapidshare is only good if you have premium.

You could use a selection of free proxies to allow you download multiple files at one time without an account.

A Rapidshare premium account is worth paying for.
