Hey guys, anyone own one of these bad boys, and can tell me a bit about what they sound like? I was thinking of dropping in to xmusic on Thursday and seeing if they have one in stock that I could try out.

Anyone have any other 5 watt amps they'd recommend?

i have the head version,so i can only comment on it.i like the amp, especially the clean channel, the overdrive channel is way more than i would ever need but i can still dial in a decent sound.the eq does its job and the isf knob(cant remember what it stands for)is great, basically anti clockwise =fender clockwise=marshall.headphones out is what really sold me and there is a 4x12 or 1x12 button on the headphone out.it is a very loud amp, even at 5watts you wont get it past 2 or 3 at home(depending on your area or neighbours)altogether a fine amp..........in relation to other 5watters it depend on your budget,i have a whole list here of amps i was looking at for anything from 100euro to thousands.

Dr Z mini ...expenive..... but lovely tone. Has a built in attenuator.
Without it I wouldn't be able to play it at home. 5 watts of tube is VERY loud!
peachideas have them across the pond in the UK.

Have both the Blackstar HT-5 and Blackheart BH5H heads.

    Both great amps..

I love the Blackstar distortion and the isf control is a real nice addition.
The Blackheart has a no built in gain, but has a 3w/5w switch which is nice, and is about half the price of the Blackheart.

    Both are incredibly loud :)

I don't think XMusic stock the Blackhearts but definately check them out on YouTube, excellent value for money.

That's the reason why I wanted one. I have the head version though.
As far as I know the Doc doesn't build the combos any more.

Played it a few times and I love it. I prefer the Mini-stack to the combo. I bought the HT-Dual pedal which is essneciall a pedal form of the HT-5 and its great too. I Have a little 2 watt amp kit on the way from Mad Amp so Im hoping it will sound sweet through that.

If you can go for it I reckon go for the stack. Not too big but you get some nice driven sounds out of channel 2 and blackstar do some of the nicest cleans I know.

I can afford the stack, its only 500 euro in Xmusic (600 on thomann, well done there Xmusic!) - Originally I was looking at a bunch of ~1000 euro marshall and fender 50-100 watt amps, until my friend pointed out that this new trend of building super high quality 5 watts would give me something much better in a practice amp.

Cheers for all the feedback guys, and I'll see if I can check out that Dr Z mini somewhere too :)

i tried the ht 5 out with a few cabs in x music - was pretty sure about buying one

    clean is a bit dull
overdrive is nice - but best with a marshall vintgae 2 by 12 cab
you really need to get a good cab for this ht 5 amp .

sounds a bit POD like overall , you can tell its not fully valve.

but it as pretty good .

i got a mesa boogie f50 2nd hand instead of the ht5 after trying it and a laney .

Yes, indeed. He's great. Playing in Ireland again in December, think I'll check him out at the Cork Opera House on the 9th.
