    Xubuntu Jaunty:

Whenever I start my machine the volume is muted and set to 3%.

    Has anyone had this issue?

    open terminal
    alsamixer
    unmute and set channel volume
    sudo alsactrl store

    And that should work:)

I'm running pulseaudio. No alsactrl here...

    Sorry typo, should be
"alsactl store" - saves the current state of sound card settings

Pulesaudio sits on top of alsa.

    I get this as output:
    E: core-util.c: Home directory /home/pickarooney not ours.

Not sure if that's an error message or not, but I'll see tomorrow on reboot. Cheers.

No change, but googling the error message and alsactl I found this. I was able to run the command as normal user and hopefully the settings will be restored when I restart.

    fingers crossed!
