i think it was a 6 pence piece to let him(John Keel/Sam Vimes) "know" what was going on in the streets.

Sorry guys but I thought Keel/Vimes gave Nobby a bowl of porridge but it was snouty who handed it to him and Nobby made his own badge out of soap.
