Might be handy to know if you are buying a second hand car.By entering the registration number if gives you information like how many previous owners the card had, whether it was crashed or not,if it was a hackney, when the tax /nct is due etc.Sorry if this is already posted somewhere.

    Good find. By the way it says this about my car;
    Insurance Cost Category High:pac:

    Thats brilliant.

Although it's saying my car is due an NCT since Jan 08.

Not sure if it's all that accurate. I just put my car reg in and it says it's had four owners. I'm only the second owner.

It flagged my car as having a large number of owners, when I'm the 3rd owner. All the other info is correct though. Thanks OP! :)

Ive noticed before that all these car check sites record trade movements as owners so that part can be ignored really. Its spot on with all the cars Ive checked so far.

    Nice find OP

Unfortunately i discovered from it that my first car has been scrapped :( (i loved that car!).
I sold it in september 2004 and it shows the tax due in october 2004. Could that mean that it was scrapped within a few months of me selling it?

I wonder how long before they start charging for this , great find btw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭MaxFlower

Seems like a good site but I just tried a car I know to have been a taxi in the past and it came back as 'no'.

    Great find OP.

If I put in my current cars , both 07, it comes up with a Database error page?
My older cars work fine though???

no, the onus is on the car owner to make sure the NCT is up to date.
better get it done or at least booked to avoid the risk of the fine and points.

    great site OP.

Ive entered a few regs from the garage I work and most of them came up ok but when I entered the reg of an X5 it said the reg was belonging to an Avensis??
So the site may not be 100% reliable.:(

this is cowans car isnt it? :P

EDIT: search doesnt come up....i put in 09 D 1

Great site, Thanks OP!! It came up accurate for the first car I owned. My second car was written off in a crash 6 weeks ago, a guy drove into the back of me (he still hasn't admitted liability grrrr:mad:). It's not showing up on that site as scrapped yet, even though I know for a fact that it has been. Probably too soon.
I just put a deposit on a '99 Astra today, to keep me going until the insurance money comes through, and will be going back to collect it on Friday. Must definitely check it out on this site. Just gota find out the Astra's reg first:p

There's always the catch, isn't there? Well here it is: I just checked my old Forester, written off by my gf over a year ago and paid out for in full within a fortnight. Written off: NO. Scrapped:NO. No of owners:1 (incorrect, should be 2). Tax expiry March 09, NCT expiry May 09, though, which are correct.

The site is ok. Seems to get most things right, only part that worries me is that i wrote off my car in Decmeber and i was the first owner. Yet it says the car has had 4 owners and has not been wrote off. Slightly odd!!

That's two write-offs so far that the site would not have warned potential customers about. Surely the point of any check is that one should be able to rely on the information given?
