dont want to appear stupid on this thread, but i really want to learn to play the guitar. dont know where to start. am a 36 yr old female and played a bit of accoustic when i was 12. i forget all the chords, but think i would pick them up quickly again. ideally, i would like to be able to play rock/metal but im wondering is it better to start on an accoustic guitar. what sort of equipment di i need to buy? would 500 euro cover me? any ideas or advice would be much appreciated. i am a genuine music fan

I'd say if you want to play rock/metal, then get an electric. Get a few lessons to get you off to a good start. Otherwise get a beginner's instruction book, or check out the lessons on You Tube.

Gear advice I'll leave to someone else, though you can get start up "kits" in most music shops. They include a guitar, cable, small amp, and a strap. They usually are not great, but ok to start on. Check them out next time you are in town.
