What's a pod cast?

The entire group falls asleep except for Nancy, and as they sleep, the true horror of what is going on reveals itself. The strange pods, now alarmingly larger than before, release white tendrils that attach to the sleeping people, and they soon burst forth with embryonic life, somehow duplicating their victims. As the process nears completion, Nancy wanders out into the yard and sees it happening, screaming loud enough to wake Matthew up. Together they wake the others, and Matthew tries to call for help. The telephone operators already know who he is, addressing him by name. He also finds that he cannot dial out of San Francisco; they are cut off. The power goes out, and they see a horde of people rushing up the hill to Matthew's house. Escaping out the back, the four of them rush off into the night, closely pursued by the screaming "pod people". Before Matthew leaves the yard, he stumbles across the still-forming duplicate of his own body and smashes it with a garden tool; the pods look human on the outside, but are completely alien on the inside.
