Fad's first paycheck should be coming in in the next few weeks or so, and I have been toying around with the idea of getting a new amp and maybe upgrading the hardware on my guitar (PRS SE Custom)(The pups are grand, but it will NOT stay in tune, that said I think I only have gauge 10s on it, so that may be the issue).

Basically, musicwise, I'm in to a bit of everything, so I like to play a bit of everything (That includes fairly heavy stuff) so I'd need a fairly versatile amp, at the moment I have a fairly crappy Ibanez amp (No idea what model, theyre not made anymore anyway!). Realistically, the max I can spend on it is about 250 (And even then that's kinda pushing it, but my birthdays coming up, so.....) what would be recommended? (Another quick point of consideration is that I live in a terraced house, so I'll need something that has a headphone socket (Ideally)).

Onto the hardware thing, locking tuners are one, I'd also like a new/better bridge (If I push down too far on the trem, the intonation thingys actuallu move, so as a result, I avoid using it totally, which is grand, I dont really need it tbh). Any recommendations on that end?

    Thanks!

I'm not convinced that locking tuners will necessarily solve your problem. The main advantage of lockers is that they make the restringing process a lot quicker. They do also eliminate the need for multiple winds around the post, which can be a cause of string slipping if you don't restring properly. It could also be an issue with the nut, if that hasn't been cut and fitted properly.

You might be better off getting the guitar set up professionally to see if these problems can be solved without the need for new hardware.

Locking tuners are nice to have, I have them on 2 of my guitars but they don't magically solve most tuning problems. That said, a set of Sperzel lockers are about €60 which won't break the bank.

What about getting some form of effects unit? Second hand Pod XT Live's should be affordable or maybe just get a Pocket Pod?

Thanks guys, I'll take a look into them, can I get a set up done out in xmusic? and would I expect a particularly decent one? OR! where else could I go?

I retrospect (ie I actually had a look at the cost of amps closely!) I think 250 is a bit too on the low side, so my absolute max would end up being around 500 quid. Any suggestions?

I'd rather not get into buy effects stuff to be honest, I have enough stuff that I dont really use (Enough) tbh.

What sort of amp are you after? I had a quick look on adverts last night and there were good amps there for 250.
