this is to anyone already studying in garnerville.
just a quick question about cash. How much do you need to bring with you???
even just an estimate. i'm trying to work out my finances here, taking into account that we get our first pay at the end of august.
i want to have rent and bills covered plus any extra i might need to live off till then.
with the amount of work we have been given to do before we start i could probably do with making this my last week in work.
just want to make sure i've enough put away to cover myself before i tell the boss. one more weeks pay might come in handy.
any input is welcome. cheers :D

Obviously Im not in GV (or nowhere near it) but I think that you get an allowance from the PSNI to cover food while you are there, its a daily allowance of £x!!! So I heard anyway, maybe things are different these days. If the allowance still stands then I guess you would only need money for the bar (if you drink) and the odd vending machine bottle of mineral. I guess then you also have to consider travelling costs.

I have just realised that my post is of no use, so please ignore. Im away for cider and Pringles:rolleyes:

    Hey,
There's no exact answer to your question but i'll try give a rough idea.
I would suggest spending as much time as you possibly can working on learning and studying the pack that you have been given. It takes a lot of pressure off if you have it all or mostly learned by the time you enter Goonville. Now for the money part - its actually quite hard to find things to spend money on! There is an allowance for breakfast and lunch and it (for me) more than covers the cost of food and drinks - you then get a dinner allowance in the evening and again it covers the cost of the food and drinks. the bar is pretty cheap so its very hard to spend even a tenner a week in the bar (plus you'll be very very busy with uniform, pre-reads etc and will only half about half an hour to spare in the bar)!! Theres no pressure on you to spend money on anything at all so I would imagine you would not need much money at all. whatever you normally spend at the weekends and travel to and from the Hotel is pretty much all you need.

By the way the first few weeks wont make sense and you will feel lost and overwhelmed - but trust me it settles down so dont fret it. Ask fellow students if you have any questions and stay grey!!

    hope that helps

Its strange reading Cartly's post now I know who he is.

As he said we have a few things to pass before we reach graduation. I remember seeing my first passing out parade, it was amazing. Hard not to shed a tear.

Whaddya think the camper van runs on?

I think I'll leave the tequila me in the dark recessess of my fellow's squaddies first impressions of me and let my air of professionalism, dedication and commitment take over when in the hotel. :D

Ha the old work book. I put so much effort into mine and they were never even collected. Typical GVille.

One tip, Invest in a suit cover - very handy

alrite guys , your money question you'll be grand with psni allowances for your day to day , bring a couple quid just to be safe as the odd tesco run for munchies etc think i managed on 50 for the 4 weeks with the odd beer thrown in ;)

but as everyone says ask the squad ahead of ya they will help you out, i love it and the time has flown in. But do be careful first 4 weeks are tough enough , you will be flat out i was anyway from 6am till 11 12 easy most nights, tho banter was great days were long but it will ease up and if your stuck ask someone for help and i found i would go MIA for a day or two puttin the head down and gettin all the work etc done but once ur past your residental you'll be laughing....:D
